Hi I was looking to make my z70 va run cooler and was looking through these forums and found nhc. I have the default values of voltages on certain multipliers set but was wondering if anybody with a z70va has custom values. (i have a intel centrino 2 ghz 760 processor.
Also, will changing the voltages at the certain multipliers decrease the spped at the multiplier or just reduce power usage with the same speed?
Also, I have a hitachi hard drive 7200 rpm and was wondering what the controls in nhc do. For example what is spin down and what should I set it to? can I have acoustics on quiet and max performance or should i just use speedfan?
Finally, Is there a way to have different profiles? eg. If i am in school i want different settings then if I am playing a game or if i have the laptop plugged in. Is there a quick way to change the settings or does one have to manual adjust?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

The voltage you can underclock to will vary from processor to processor. Generally, you should try it out 1 step down at a time, at a reasonable undervoltage run prime 95 for a couple of hours, see if the computer crashes, then set the voltage up one notch.
EDIT: I am running my laptop (1.86 ghz) at .732 minimum voltage and 1.084 max voltage, but only because I am lazy and I looked at other people's minimum numbers and set it up a couple of notches. -
Thanks for your reply. I figured out some settings that have been so far stable but i was also wondering if there is a way to cool down the hard drive. my hard drive runs from 55-60c and it seems to me that this is high.

You have a Hitachi 7200RPM hard drive... it will run hot (Hitachi's normally run hot...AND the fact that it's 7200RPM makes it even hotter)
But don't worry about it...the hard drive can take a lot of heat. There's no real way you can decrease the heat...unless you control its performance and make it run slower/quieter - but that would defeat the purpose of buying a 7200RPM drive in the first place. -
Could you please tell me what program I would need to control the speed. I need it for times when I am not doing much activity execpt watching a movie or something and the laptops in my lap. That way the laptop won't start heating up. Thanks.

To adjust the power properties of a Hitachi HDD, look at the utilities at http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm.
Although you may be able to select options to reduce the power consumption, I do not believe that you can slow down the rotation speed. I also doubt that this feature will come in the near future. Whereas the CPU can switch speed quickly in response to changed load, physical discs have a lot of inertia.

thanks for the link but all these require a dos boot disk (the ones I was looking at were drive fitness test and feature tool). The one utility I tried was power booster but it said it wasn't compatible w/ my travelstar 7k60 drive. Any other suggestions?

Hmmm... that's strange that it wouldn't work. I installed a Travelstar 7k60 earlier this year into my HP zx5000 and used the Power Booster utility to adjust power consumption. I wonder why it's saying your drive is not compatible?
I just redownloaded it and reinstalled it just to make sure it didn't change from when I dl'd it last. The setup screen says it's for 95/98/2000/XP so it's supposed to be compatible. Maybe a possibility that you already have another power management program installed and it's conflicting with Power Booster.
