Hi all,
I've had my z70va for about 5 months now, and it's been running great with my only gripe being the ghosting screen. But lately I've been getting a low buzzing noise, that is very distracting unless I have my in ear headphones on.
I would say the volume level is equivalent to that of my fans at 50% output (I usually run around 30-35% which is silent). I've tried to narrow it down, and it's definitely not my fans because I've turned them off with SpeedFan and I can still hear the buzzing.
The buzzing will also seem to fluctuate when I lift the laptop up and down. I've tried to keep my ear near the laptop during this process and I can only conclude that it's the hard drive, which is a Hitachi Travelstar 80GB.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

RMA for the Ghosting screen, you paid too much to have to live with that. My Z70VA buzzed too but I fixed it.....I no longer own one.

You know, I just saw one of these units yesterday. Very new. It reminded me of the Sony GRX series of 16" display laptops from a few years ago. If that is carbon fiber it sure doesn't look like it to me! And I can understand the noise issue too. It sounds like a jet plane taking off when you push the system with high demand software. Guess I am spoiled by the LG LM series and the Panasonics with real material that not only looks good but is lightweight. You get what you pay for in the world of laptops.
Sorry you are having a new noise issue. Have you checked your fans for dust mite colonies? -
if configured properly... software-wise, noise shouldn't be an issue at all.
Your GPU fan could be causing the buzzing noise... -
How are you going to compare a panasonic notebook to a asus. they are two different types of notebooks. you get what you pay for huh. Would that be the LGs that overheat and freeze up when playing games. or the 2500 W2 toughbook that has a screen as dim as a candle. Asus makes some budget notebooks but overall they are some of the best constructed period. Not only do they make the powerbooks and have made sonys. And were about to make thinkpads before they were bought out. I dont see panasonic having that kind of record or LG although i do love alot of LGS products. not saying they are junk but compare models that should be compared. Your laptop is called a toughbook for that price it better be tough. Can you game on it though no. Sure can on the asus. my W2V is beautifuly constructed.
But the Z70va is also a model that has been around for years thats why the styling looks like it does.
But have fun with your 2500 panasonic that doesnt probably even have a dvd burner get what you pay for right.
Sorry just stand by my asus -
no buzzing here

M6n. m5n, z70v, z70va all made slight buzzing sound. Its very faint you can hear it in a silent room. Sometime its there sometimes its not. I dont consider it a big deal. Not all the z70va had this quality but many or most did. Its hard to notice but when a picky person does they will not get off it. Thats my take. As anything these little trivial things will not bother most but theres always someone who will hate it. Unfortunately the buzzing is common among many models from dell as well. You cant really do anything about it. Laptops make noise.

I think I know what you're talking about. The buzzing has been discussed by many people on many different laptops.
I'm sure it's normal. Mine buzzes too, but not too loud. I can only hear it in a dead silent room with my head pretty close to it, or if I'm just using it on my nighttable beside my bed at night.
I think it has to do with the cpu or capacitors on the motherboard.
No worries unless it's so loud that you can hear it outside of the room you have it in.
Cheers,

It's the gerbil's inside making the magic happen.

Gerbils, LOL
That'd be so cruel, not even funny. HAHA -
ahhh; opened up my chassis and saw little orange hairs next to my CPU; must call that jUSTIN guy and ask him about my plight or I'm sure it'll be posted, soon. Thanks.

Ewwww, orange hairs? Get a little too close to your laptop while entertaining the lady friend? Haha
Goodluck with that. I'm sure you can just take out the hairs and that'll be the end of that.
