I am assuming these are driver issues..
when i unplug the power (or plug it in) the computer freezes.
if i try to change resolutions, the computer freezes.
if i try to play call of duty 1, all i get is a black screen where eventually i have to hold down the power button to turn it off, then reboot it.
I have uninstalled power4gear, to see if it is any different, but so far nothing has changed.
i am using the stock drivers from the disc, except the touchpad and video drivers. the touchpad drivers are updated to the newest version from synaptics, and the video drivers are the ATI 6.3's from the gaming section on NBR.
if these issues are not driver related, then what could it be?

Hmmm, Power4Gear would be my culprit as well.
When did it start? And was anything major installed/removed at that time? -
well right now im working off a fresh install. i am thinking that a driver is corrupting everything, but not quite sure which one. the most likely being the 6.3 from ATI. as i said before, i removed power4gear, and it still freezes when i remove the power from it and try to run off battery. not quite sure what is going on there. as for the resolution issue, it seems to me like it is a video driver issue...
i may reinstall windows xp in my next 3 hour class..unless i can figure out what is wrong soon.

Don't run any driver straight from ATI - if that's infact what you're doing....... run the Asus driver... and if you dare... you can try the omega drivers at www.omega.net ..... but that's it.
.... at stock, you didn't have these issues...... so yes, it's very very likely it's a driver or software that you installed..... go back to stock entirely and see if you still run into issue. When you want to test something like that out, set up a save point in system restore and when you find what's giving you problems, you can restore to before it happened and although it's not great... you'll know what's causing it and that alone is a big deal... so start there.. -
turns out (as far as i know) that ATI Tray Tools was corrupting me. i can now put the plug in and take it out at will, with no worry, call of duty runs fine (ran ad-hoc with 3 people in the library before), and change resolutions.. ATI Tray Tools is the devil!
ill give power4gear another shot tonight, and report back.

I had the same experience with ATI Tray Tools when I tried out the Omega's. I think it may have to do with their implementation of sensor/temp reporting. It's the same freezing problem that has been reported to occur when running Everest.

Blargh, yes ATI TOOLS is very buggy, I didn't like it. Of course you can get it to run without crashing your laptop, but I'd rather do without it.
It doesn't like to run with CCC installed.
Just do without it.
Cheers,

do you use CCC? is it still a resource hog? still slooooowwwwwww?

It's slow as heck and does eat up some resources, but it's not so bad when you think about the power our systems have. Majority of people have over 1gb of ram now, so no big deal.
You could try out the Control Panel version in the Catalyst 6.3 thread by ikovac.

Mike
