    Hi -

I have had a z70va for some time and have been wondering this for awhile. Anytime I plug in a usb 2.0 device(external hardrive, ipod, etc), it tells me the device would operate faster if there was a usb 2.0 controller installed... I thought all for usb ports on the z70va were usb 2.0? This not true?

I always wonder why questions like these don't get picked right up and answered....

The usb ports on the Z70va are 2.0... yes, all of them are.... If you're using XP w/ SP1 at least... the correct drivers should be on your system. Obviously you're having problems, so if you have XP with at least service pack 1, I'd almost suggest formatting and starting over.... something got screwy along the way.

Justin gets to it quicker because he's so speedy.... :)

I got the same note on my z63a right after I flashed the bios to 08 a few weeks back (they worked fine in 0602) - the fix was that I had to go into the BIOS and change the usb setting to enable hispeed/2.0, and everything sails right along now. Not sure why this wouldn't have been enabled in your z70va already when they built it, but you might want to go in and check there to see if the usb setting is correct.

Thanks for the replies. Where is the bios setting for updates to usb configurations? I am in my bios setup utility by pressing f2 on startup... Is that where you are talking about making the change? If so, I see nothing for usb.

It is a different way between desktop and laptop when updating a BIOS. Asus drivers CD comes with the BIOS updated utility. You have to go to Asus Website to download the file first, then through the utility open the BIOS updated file. It will be finished and need to reboot the machine.
    Cheers

Ugh, isn't that the same as updating the bios on a desktop?

Download the bios, burn it on a floppy, flash the bios, remove floppy and restart?

Thanks for the help. I am trying to just update the bios setting for the usb ports to be hi-speed as stated by the post above. Not update the entire bios. Or are you guys saying that the configuration option for usb ports only exists in the updated bios? Or I guess I could just update the bios and see if the usb 2.0 issue fixes itself?

You can't update just part of the BIOS - it's all or nothing.

If you update, the bios may not set the usb ports w/o user input and you might still have to peruse the bios options to find the usb item and configure.

There really was nothing about USB in *any* of the different BIOS screens when you looked? huh.... I kinda thought there would have been. Maybe someone else with a z70va (Shampoo has one - you could try PM'ing him) can check to see if it's somewhere in there you missed?

Would somebody with a Z70va mind going into their bios configuration utility and seeing if there is an option for USB Configuration? If there is, can you let me know what bios version you have. Thanks

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but I'm now having the same problem. Anyone figure out a solution? I have the latest BIOS and can't find any USB settings. I should also mention that I just reinstalled Windows XP, including all the critical updates.

I've tried downloading the Via USB 2.0 drivers, but still no luck.
