this afternoon when i got home i turned on my laptop and was surprised to see that it was using battery even though it was plugged in. I then checked the physical connections and everything was plugged in correct. I am coming here to see if anyone else has had this problem and if they would have a solution. Thanks for any help.

hmm... sounds odd. Is it STILL on battery right now as it's plugged in... or has the problem been resolved?

If you plug the AC adapter into a powerbar, perhaps the powerbar is off?

Does your adapter have light or no light and if the charge is working then it would feel warm to very warm. If your adapter has light and feels warm then you might have problem with your battery or laptop plug.

OK...... can you power you laptop with the battery out and the AC in? If not, it's your AC adapter for sure......

But if you smelled something sort of burning... like an ozone type smell.... that probably was the or something else in the AC adapter itself.

Ok Does your ac charge light go off when it is plugged in to the laptop with the battery connected? If yes then mainboard needs replacement.

hm k well after a little more playing around if i plug in the ac i will see the battery charging light for around 2 minutes then it wll stop. I can then start and get into my account and 10 seconds after battery dies.

Ac adaptors dont fail often. On the z70va it is more likely for the charging mechanism to fail. Easy way to tell is to see if you can power your laptop on without the battery. If it works without it but dies after you insert it (light goes off on the brick) you have to rma it. Mobo needs replacement

In that case all points to ac adaptor. If jiggling around on the backside of the laptop allows it to charge. Basically if you paly with the connector in the jack and notice the charge light on the laptop flickers then its most likely your connector which still means you have to send it in. It very well maybe your ac adapter tho i have yet to see one of these break on the z70va. Perhaps the most reliable part of these laptops are the ac adaptors asus uses (with the exception of one model which is long gone)

Sounds like you may have brokening the power supply tip in the computer........ I don't want to say this happens often, but I've seen it about a dozen times over the years and it's common enough for me to know it when it happens. On your notebook that PS can actually be replaced without replacing the whole motherboard. Asus will probably do this for free, but if that broke off it means that too much pressure was put on the adapter........ I've heard of this happening when people hang their AC adapter off a table and the weight of that is pulling on the plug....

    Give Asus a call.
