I wanted to check that this is the right ram for the z71v:
    200-Pin 512MB DDR2 SODIMM PC2-4200

Does brand make a big difference in the ram for notebooks?
Can I get anything as long as it is stated as 200-Pin 512MB DDR2 SODIMM PC2-4200?
Any thoughts on Super Talent, Kingston, Corsair, Transcend, Infineon ram?
Any body know of good deals on this type of ram?

That is correct. The main differences with all of these RAM company is the board they use to put the chipset on. Some is better design for stablity than other.

They are use the same if not similar chipset from Samsung, Micron, etc. The board they use might be different to their own design and manufacturing.

With that, the more popular brand tends to offer life time warranty, better stablity on over clocking, us the latest and greatest chipset, etc.
