z71v v/s z70va

why is the z71v much cheaper at same configs (gcard-6600,128) than the z70va (gcard-x700,128); everything else remaining excatly alike.
specially when in the gcards forum it says that x700=6600.
@ geared2play the difference in cost is ~$235.

 

better battery life, better screen, better design.

 

@ geared2play both have a
15.4” WSXGA+ (1680X1050) TFT Display
but for the z70va it says " no ghosting"
please explain the difference?

 

I believe when the Z70VA was released last year, there were some issues with red ghosting on the screens. Asus has corrected this issue. On the G2P site, Eddie is just letting people know that there's "No ghosting" on the screens

The z70va is a much nicer pc get that over the z71. its made of better materials bettery looking nicer screen faster video card.

 

The 6600 = x700, however, by factory default, the 6600 in the Z71v is underclocked. The Z71v is more budget friendly, but overall, their performance is very similiar.

 

clock for clock the 6600 and x700 are about the same. but the 6600 in the z71v is at 250MHz while the x700 is 350MHz (420MHz on my overclocked z70va). So you can imagine how much faster the z70va is. The cooling solution on the z70va isn't that great, but it's FAR FAR better than the z71v. The folks over at http://www.z71forums.com/ are trying to resolve this issue.

 

The Z71 is plastic - but has the ALS (auto light senor)

The Z70 is carbon fiber - and has the option for a port bar, and a most expensive screen (even though both are 15.4" SXGA+) - the Z70va's is better.

The difference has been there for 7 months or so....

 

z70va's video is faster than z71v. Red Ghosting problem is already fixed by Asus long time ago, up to now, general speaking, z70va's performance is still better than z71v overall.

 

The only reason I can think of... for someone to purchase the Z71v over the Z70Va is for price. ONLY if you can't spare the extra $$ should you get the Z71v... but if you can, the Z70Va is the clear winner.

 

You could add the "design" of it to the plus side of the Z70 as well..... you can't really put a price on that, but with all of the other stuff, it certainly helps make the decision...

 

The z71v also had some battery drain issues i think.

 

There was a physical flaw in the design of the Z71v battery - found in January (after they already replaced everyone's batteries)..... but that's all squared away and anyone with problems again - or just happen to get them now... Asus will still replace them..

 

Hmm after a year the v70va vs v71v still continues.....

One have to look at the history of these laptops to see the clear winner and Asus showing no love..ehehhe

Z70v was originally introduce...zv71v kick ass....v70va was introduce, z71v cry ....then v70va + bluetooth....z71v continue to cry....

Notebook to notebook, the Z71v trump Z71va. However, Z70va has a better design and better video card.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the Z70va lighter too?

 

On the spec sheet, yes, however, if you pick it up, if anything the Z70va has more 'condensed' weighting, making it feel heavier. In my experience anyways

I will also generate a new thread but maybe it is better to ask right here. I am planning to buy an ASUS Z71v or Z70va. The two most important things are the screen resolution (1680-1050) and running cool and silent.
Does Z70va run cool and silent? Are there any warm spots in the palm rest area ? or around the touch pad?

There are no warm spots at all on the palm rest area or touch pad, and while it's not quiet as a mouse.. the GPU fan noise makes a sound, but will not bother you at all.

Yes, the GPU fan runs most of the time, except on battery... On battery, this notebook is silent.

 

Not everyone's Z70va, mine definitely isn't. I have to use Speedfan to manually slow the GPU fan down, otherwise even on battery, the GPU fan is on more often than not. No problems with the CPU fan or CPU heat though.

Hot spots for mine are on the underside of the notebook. Directly beneath the GPU and chipset it gets hot, and it gets pretty warm beneath the hard drive. Also it's pretty warm under the second ram slot at the bottom when it's occupied. The left side of the palmrest near the keyboard gets warm from the hard drive as well.
