Sometimes, when i hit a key to try to bring my z81 out of standby (or is it hibernation, whichever one has the light on the power button quickly fading on and off) the light on the power button goes on and the hd light blinks and then if i tap the keys a few more times, you hear the windows exiting chime and it shuts off. Sometimes I have to hold the power button to turn it off. I went to the power manager and shutoff all of the auto standby options.

Is this normal? I remember every now and then my old gateway would do some screwy things when i tried to bring it out of standby but i can't remember it ever doing this.

Strange. I bring my system out of standby by hitting the FN key once. I don't use any other key.

I don't use hibernation, but standby should be working.

Some people do have problems with standby, but I don't know in your case.

How long do you leave it in standby?

usually not longer than a half an hour. In fact, I had all of the power saving features turned off for my computer but after i turned my computer back on after the last time it did this, the setting that puts it in standby after five minutes when the lid is closed was back on. Mysterious. Or maybe i just forgot to hit apply.

I think I remember my old gateway did this every now and then so hopefully it's nothing. I've heard that the power management systems on most laptops are kinda screwy about going into standby.
