I recently ordered a z81sp. I have absolutley no regrets and feel i'm getting an overal good price vs power deal.

I know that the z81 is heavy as hell and has a massive chassis to support this.

With that in mind, does anybody know how economic and possible it would be ,if in 3-5 years when i need more power for modding and gaming, to take out the chipset and all the other stuff and bring it up to date, rather than get a new comp.

Five years from now, it will probably be time to get a new laptop. I have a feeling we're going to see changes in storage, input methods, and screens very soon.

Take out the chipset are you kidding. Its not a pc tower. In 5 years it will either make a good paper weight or good for target practice. But yes in 5 years i think we are going to see a large leap in laptop technology bringing it equal to desktop perforance. and maybe even solid state drives. OLED monitors just wishing i guess.

In 5 years? It's not a desktop system.

So no you won't be able to upgrade it so much.

I'm sure future laptops may possibly be more upgradable and scalable than current laptops, but I don't believe they will be as upgradable as desktops.

considering some of the crazy modded computers i've seen, i don't see why it wouldn't be possible to mod an old laptop into something more current, especially when you've got a monster chassis like the one on the z81.

It's because of the form factor... who, other than Asus, would make a motherboard that fits EXACTLY in the Z81 chassis with all of the ports sitting in the right places? Not even Asus would do that...since it would be quite the waste of time (and money) to switch out the motherboard for a new one.
