I havent seen any reports on this site about the audio issues, but that is no promise that there isnt any. The difference in firewire ports is the size. one is a mini-port bit lit the mini-usbs you see on cameras etc. This is the most common form found on laptops, as it takes up less physical space....all you need is a AtoB cable/adaptor and your firewire device will work as normal.

ps check the specs on the asus website for that model it should tell you about the audio chipset used

u-pantman--i did find out it's an azalia chipset and after further perusing found an article at tom's hardware "Intel's HD audio pc sound ambitions" that's got some cool info. thanx for defining "A" "B" for me -- i thought i read on a reseller site for z83 that it had a "B" IEEE fw port but from pic's i see it's a small one-thus it's an "A"

Overall the build on all Asus machines are quite good... better than what you'd find at BestBuy or some other electronics store. I, too have also read about slight keyboard flexing on the Z83v... that really depends on the user. Some people actually kind of like the feel of slight flexing... some don't.
My old M6Ne had some keyboard flex and I kind of liked it... haha. You be the judge! :)
