    Hi,
i just purchased z84jp from gentech. I was able to install 4 gigs of Geil 667 ram (2x2gb) but the system recognizes only 3gb (as stated in the BIOS). I'm going to update the bios and see if it changes anything. Manufacturer claims this notebook supports 4gb, so what is the problem?

I have installed Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista 64bit and OpenSuse 10.2 64bit and so far im not able to connect to network. Wireles seems to be working ok, but ethernet card is not. It kind of connects but the connection is of a limited connectivity (network is not able to assign IP address to my notebook). I have installed drivers provided by Asus, MS, and the latest from Marvell with no success.

    thank you for any suggestion

If you want WinXP to recorgnize 4GB and OVER.. google a patch for windows that allows to see 4GB.

However, the system will run at 4gb but your computer won't see it.

About Lan problems, you might check your network to see. Make sure your TCP/IP settings should be Automatic. If your net work use sticky IP and DNS address, you might have to configure it.

First try with your DSL cable to see if it works.

I plug the same cable to Toshiba Satellite a105 and it works flawlessly. the same settings apply in both laptops.

Vista 64bit recognized only 3gb of ram and so did opensuse 64bit.

"However, the system will run at 4gb but your computer won't see it."
if its true.. no problem :)

still, i suspect that the ethernet card is damaged. is it possible i received laptop that was returned previously due to the same issues? i wonder...

    thank you

yeah.. try to RMA it .. probably the network card is bad. It's rarely happen though.

Yeah it's true, your computer will run at 4gb . My work place has a serve with dual Xeon and we hook 4GB of ram in there. when i click on properties it says 4GB of ram ... my fellow friend said that they install some kind of patch to make XP see 4gb of ram in the computer.

so to clarify... even if bios states that ive got 3gb of usable ram, the system will utilize all 4 gb of my geil 667 ram?

so i called asus and ... it supports only 3gigs instead of 4gigs as it was intended initially . it had some stability issues supposedly :( its very disappointing. if i knew before i would have purchased MSI barebone for some $300 more which includes latest generation video card
    *******s ;)
