Are you available to go to the Windows?? You can check the version of your BIOS and make sure it it a updated one. If you can go to the Windows, the flash utility can be run and let it open the file "z96j.rom" from the hard drive.
You try to go this link, might be help.......

You can still go to the BIOS after pressing [F2], right?? I just wonder that some parts might be not compatible with the BIOS. Please double check all the parts, and you can take out the hard drive or memory to see how it works. If you can, run the memory test and make sure the memory still good.
If not all the issue, probably, you have to contact your dealer to figure out the problem.
    Cheers

Are you using a windows disk with service pack 2 on it? I had a similar problem as well. I beleive your's might be related. Service Pack 2 adds support for PCI-E devices (such as the x1600 in the 96j

edit- Sorry, misread the topic..gotta stop replying to people at 4am...

Suppose it comes with 4 screws to hold and mount the hard drive, right?? If you stripped one, it will not make any problem for detecting a hard drive from BIOS or disconnecting a power.
    Cheers

From the Merom BIOS Info Pack:

    Known issues

Issue: System does not boot, error codes may or may not appear
If the Intel® Core™2 Duo is installed before first upgrading the BIOS, the following error codes may appear (system dependant):

    · Intel CPU uCode loading error

    · Unknown BIOS error. Error Code = FFFF

Workaround: Install the original Intel® Core™ Duo processor (Yonah) and follow the steps above to upgrade the BIOS and then install the Core™2 Duo processor.
