After much looking on the internet I still cannot find the answer to this old problem, and was hoping there might now be a solution.

My Zenbook UX32VD started acting funny not long ago. Turn it on, nothing is displayed on the screen (the screen is on), just black. A reboot sometimes helped. At first I had no idea what it was. I have been able to reinstall windows 8 (even that was a struggle, as the screen would often not work). searching online, and it seems to be a problem with the intel hd4000 driver.

I have tried reinstalling it, getting it direct from intel, getting the newest version but I still have the same problem. Sometimes my screen works, depending on how I turn the computer on (plugged in or not).

I disabled the driver, and that temporarily solved the problem. But upon boot up, sometimes the screen works and sometimes it doesn't. This is very frustrating, and I do not know what to do. I am quite good at computers, but not the most technically minded.

I re-enabled the driver to see what would happen, and the screen went black suddenly. So this must be the root of the problem.

I can't install any windows updates, as this restarts my computer, and gets stuck in a black screen. I must manually shut down the computer and start it up normally in order to not get the black screen.

Hopefully that makes some sense. It must be a well known problem, as I have seen many forum posts, but no real solution. And nothing so far has worked for me.

    Any tips? Thanks

If you get no picture at all during POST, prior to Windows or any operating system, then that's not a driver problem. You may actually be experiencing a faulty integrated GPU. If the computer is freezing at POST, rather, then that could mean a component is failing altogether (possibly the CPU, as it's related to the other scenario/problem).
