Please take note that these results are from the laptop sitting on a flat desk. There is no cooling pad. I got tierd of having no control over the fans of my C90S so I decided to figure out a way to switch between BIOS control of the fans and straight up 12v. I don't mind how loud the fans are at 12v honestly, especially at a 200 man LAN, you don't really hear them.

    Impressive.

Now for the wiring, does this mean that the fans will only turn on when switched or will they still auto-turn on when the temperature reaches a certain level?

From what I see I'd say they are still connected to the normal source so it's always BIOS controlled, but when the switch is ON, the fans get 100% power input

They are LOUD. There is a plugin somewhere in there...in the graph area, Setup -> Plugins > Vidmem.dll.

Well, the switch has 2 settings. Normal mode, or BIOS control, they will spin up like normal when they get hotter and such. But the second setting though will be straight up 12 volts. There is no spinning up to 12v when the CPU hits 55 ~ 56C like normal.

Thats amazing work. Its so cool that there are people like you out there in these forums. Love it man. Of all the times to have a digital camera though....are your switches just on and off or can you dial up and dial down the fan speed?

EXACTLY what I was aiming at ;)

hehe thanks. I'm helping my brother in law with getting his fuel pump in his car tomorrow morning at about 7.30AM CST. I'll ask in return for the help to use his digital camera. I know I know...I REALLY need to invest in one, which I plan on doing soon. See my post above for the switch settings.

Nice looks like I have a fellow techy moder on the forums. I have not tested the voltage the fans get normally does it go all the way up to 12v? If not have you checked the fans rated input so you dont fry them?

Now if we can get some better pictures :p

my mod + your mod.... we may be in a whole new league (quad core maybe..)

hehe and that you do my friend. I have not tested the voltage that the fans get up at max from the motherboard for I have fried my volt meter last week LOL. I gotta get a new one soon. One thing I am going to do is look up the fans model and see what it can do just to make sure. If I fry them, I'm sure I would jump the gun to replace them with better fans ;).

It is true that this mod yeilds MUCH better temps than your modification, however, yours is dead silent practically. Mine sounds like a fleet of jets leaving a carrier ;).

Something that I would LOVE TO GET MY HANDS ON would be that pure copper cooler that you see in the C90P thread...oh my god would that get me on (lol). I would also like to get ahold of a GDDR3 8600m too :(

According to Delta's Website (Manufacterer of the fan), they are 12v, spin at 9,500rpm, move 13CFM each, and make 36.5dB of noise. The model number on my Deltas are AFB0412VHB. Aparently the AFB0412SHB spin a bit faster and move a bit more air, same size. They would be a nice little upgrade if you can find them at a reasonable price. This is only from Delta though, I'm going to be looking into it tonight :]

    thanks ;)

My next mod will involve a dial to change voltage from 0 to 12v.

The new pictures are MUCH better! I can actually tell what you did now.

So the next step is to show you how to use thumbnails :p

So what about some of the finer details? I suppose you connected the wires via soldering and for the switch holes I am guessing maybe a dremel? (thats what I would use but alot of tools can do it) The good thing about the micro pent if it fits is that to install it, just a drill is all you need for a round hole. (Last time I installed a switch was in my truck under the dash for my racing lights, I used a razor blade to cut the square hole and it was one of those break away blades that you break when it gets dull to get a new edge... well I was pressing so hard it broke and cut into my finger nearly to the bone... my crazy ass just grabbed a paper towel and wraped it around my finger and kept doing what I was doing to finish my work before I even tended to the wound :p )

hey ziggo - could you be awesome enough to put up a parts list of what all you used? I've been trying to learn some basic stuff about electronics but I learn the most from hands-on work and this looks like a fun mod (not that using a drill press to do the vicious mod wasn't :p ). Also if you did a step by step guide or at least maybe a mini guide of some kind that would be awesome too.
