    [HORROR STORY] WARNING for Studio XPS buyers, do NOT choose Bluetooth!

    Ok, so I was like a lot of people on here, who were considering their options and wanted to buy a Studio XPS 16" laptop. I read about all the horror stories and delays people have been having on here, and just gave in anyways and thought "I hope it won't happen to be".... well it did.


    Timeline of events:

    1/17/2010: Date of my order

    I ordered my studio xps 16" laptop on this day because the "day of deals" had the i7 dual core (i7-620M), on sale in a one day only deal that I could not pass up.

    I got:

    i7-620M (2.66 - 3.33ghz)
    6GB DDR3 RAM
    256GB SSD
    1080p RGBLED

    SubTotal: $2234.00 ($2423.91 after taxes & shipping)

    1/26/2010: I call Dell.

    So my order had been in "Pre Production" for over a week now (Showed 3 different status' on different pages), and I called to make sure everything was going okay. The Indian customer service agent (difficult to understand LOL), told me that my order had a problem and I asked , "What do you mean?"

    She responded by saying, my order would never move out of pre-production due to the fact that I chose Bluetooth. She said that almost every laptop that ordered a Bluetooth chip would never leave pre production because they were having problems.

    She asked If I would like to have a new order customized and place it right away. I asked "Is it not possible to just change my previous order", and the usual questions, which were all answered with "no".

    I then asked if I would be able to get the deal I got for about $400 off when I ordered my previous system, she then customized me an order with a quad core processor, and kept trying to talk me into why I should get the quad core instead of the dual core, and after arguing for a minute, I informed her that I was the customer, and I know what I want... she then agreed to try to find a deal with the dual core processor I wanted..

    She then gave me a total (after taxes) that was ~$2,700.

    I asked, "Are you not able to give me the deal I got before...", she said "no". I then informed her that "Why would you put an option on your website if you knew you were not able to provide in the first place...?"

    She said it was a "website error and there is nothing she could do".

    I then told her than I would not be able to order until tomorrow due to the fact my bank account was literally $50 less than what the order total (after taxes) came to...

    I told her I would call back tomorrow after I transfered more money to my account (It's a local bank closes at 5PM, have not enabled online transferring LOL).

    About 3 minutes later after I have started my rant on facebook, I see on my iPhone "Incoming call from 800 -XXX - XXXX", I answer it and it's the dell representative I just talked to. She said she talked to her supervisor and was able to give me credit to the order so that the total (after taxes) was $5.00 less than what I had in my bank account.

    So I just had her order it, and now I'M supposed to call this 800# tomorrow (because they are already closed. FML.), and cancel my old order as it will never leave pre production.

    I then had her order my new system.. (READ DOWN FOR EDITED POST INFO)

    New Order Totals:


    Well the subtotal came to: $2,478.00 ($2,686.18 after taxes)


    EDD: 2/16/2010


    (OLD EED: 2/3/2010)


    EDITED BELOW: new system again! (2nd time in a day)

    So about an hour after I had my order fixed, I looked on Dell.com and customized a system for what I had just ordered, and it came out to about $200 less than what she customized the same specs for...

    I then promptly called her back with her extension and had the order we just placed canceled, and she took my new customization and placed that order instead.

    The difference in price mainly is the warranty and the antivirus software which I do not need.


    In the very end:

    Original system bought online: $2,423.91

    New system ordered over the phone(1st time): $2,686.18

    New system ordered over the phone (2nd time) : $2,500.59


    In the end, I ended up paying $76.69 more than I originally paid. (not as mad as before, but still pretty annoyed).


    Total Price: $2,500.59 (after taxes) (Same customizations as original order, and the first time I re-ordered)

    In the end, I'M happy that I got my system sorted out, paid $76.68 more for basically the same thing, but at least I know it will get here soon!

    Lesson to deal should be, you should at least inform your customers that their system has a problem as soon as they find out, why have the customer wait forever for a system to be canceled and not know why until they call?

    problem with your order on bluetooth doesnt mean we cant order bluetooth.

    other than that, my bluetooth works perfectly fine.

    Well, I'M just advising people to not choose that option, because you may get delayed indefinitely.


    But, I just looked on the dell website, and customized exactly what I wanted.. and it was litterally 180$ less than what she ordered it for.

    So I called her back and had her cancel the one I just ordered. ( I did it just in time thank god), and ordered this one i customized with the same exact stats (minus the bluetooth and the extended warranty she put on it) and it came out to $2500 instead of $2,686. :)

    tl;dr

    Your experiences are not universal. I've had 4 laptops move out of pre-production, all configured with BT. You most likely got fed a line of bull.

    yeah.. i think ya gave up to easy and got jipped 75 bucks + cost of BT. I would be mad as ya should get that deal price :-/

    Yeah, reps tend to know near nothing. Sounds like a complete load. I wouldn't swear people off of BT on the word of one lowly rep.

    So, I called Priya back today, and asked if it was possible for her to apply more discounts and she did, it was a little more of a hassle, because the order from yesterday had already frozen my money from my bank account and it was not going to be released until Friday.

    She could have used the older authorization, but it would have delayed my order by 3 more days, so I transfered another 2500 into my checking account to cover the new authorization. lol.

    I managed to get my system down to where it's only $30.07 more than my original price. :)

    Still not perfect, but not bad.

    I would recommend the customer service agent who helped me to anyone, she really did try her best and got me what I wanted. (Priya Hari) EX: 4161526

    Well, call them back and see if you can have the Bluetooth Back on the order.
    might be Worth a try. :D You really need to see if they can do BT, it is a must now a days.
