Hey there I was woundering what you guys think of it!!

I used one of these mesh thingys that hold paper in and took off the handle and bent one side down to create a slope :)

I love it and the results are about 3/4c less now :D

Im going to be adding more fans to it and more cable manage ment but for now this is all I've got :)
[Oh I'll add more pics with the new fans + also is it safe to add more than one fan onto a single USB cable? Or should I add them all onto a USB hub?]

Looks pretty sweet! Good idea with the mesh, I might do that one sometime...

2 Q's for my own reference:
    1. Is it a 5v or 12v fan?
    2. How did you wire the USB? Is it just red>red and black>black?

Also, you should be able to wire more than one fan to the USB. As long as you're pulling less than 500mA, you'll be fine :)

room temp play a very important role to these. I'm living in a tropical country & I streesed the CPU with games so 60 is ok to me.

Well the fans are bought from a local shop near me lol and so i get then really cheap.

As for wiring well i simply soldered both fans together and soldered them my old Samsung D600's Datacable (USB) :D

The fans are both 0.28A and as far as I know USB can only supply 0.5A and I noticed that the right fan is slightly slower but oh well still does and amazing job :)

Very good DIY cooler. Simple yet creative.

You can still improve the intake by raising the tilt or lifting the whole pad off the ground.

Mine idles at around 32c CPU/HDD using a massive single fan. My external HDD's and power adapter sit below the fan to suck the heat out of them.

Well I was planing to make like a "shatf" I dunno what to call it but basicly a tunnel to bend the air intake to enter through the back of the cooler. More air + less dust bcoz I have the mesh to reduce it :)

Well there 12v Fans and I just simply soldered Red to Red and Black to Black just as you said :)

Also the fans are 0.28A each aka 280mA each so thats 660 mA I don't know it thats damagin but I the second fan is slightly slower. Still cools Great but you wouldn't notice unless you hold your han in front of the fans and feel a little bit more from the left than the right one :)

I've found some gigandor fans here at work and the smaller ones are 12V so I'm looking to hook up two as a notebook cooler.
    Good to know though!

Do you have the fans blowing onto the system? Or "sucking" air away from the system?

Edit: Oh, and did you happen to get the mesh at walmart? I see a set of 5 pieces that includes a mesh paper holder like that with a handle on the back. Just wondering if it's the same thing before I get it.

Ducting. When you channel air you use ducting. <---I'm seriously not trying to be an *******, I just didn't know how else to say it. :)

But I seriously love your idea. I was going to buy a coolmat but I love to build things myself - so this is what I will go with... Awesome!

Hey no problem I love the fact that I ---> Tolkan ---> ME! made it :p

And no sorry I got it from Ikea a year back now... But the Walmart one should work to (Make sure the handle can be removed)

Ok then Ducting!! XD But I've been looking at it from the side and I don't think mine would work as I haven't got alot of room... The 80mm fans would work perfect as its higher up the unit allowing more of a gap before hitting my desk :)

    Nails. very small nails. :D

Seriously, though, excellent DIY design. I want to build one but will need to make adjustments as I have the 9 cell (raised) battery. Fans probably work best when flush with the bottom of the laptop.

If anyone finds a good source (online or otherwise) for the mesh stand part, please post up.

Found this at the walmart site Neu Home 5-Piece Mesh Desk Accessory Set, Silver Color

Im on the 9 cell battery!! :D

Works great I guess i could comeup with a duct between the gap and the top of the mesh... But that would restrict the air flow going down wards towards the hard drive

Oh also that link to Walmart is literaly the exact same thing I bought!!

Just remove the handle and bend one of the sides down for the angle...

As someone else said earlier, if you dont bend the side down and use it at a higher level teh fans would be better and beter cooling would be provided, but then again thats too high for me, I love the angle I get from the cooler great for typing :)

Walmart actually sells a notebook cooler made out of the same mesh, it's made by Belkin and has a slot in the back for a Belkin usb hub or mini power strip, I did the same thing with two 120mm fans, the mesh is actually perfect for screwing the large fan screws into so no zipties. Anyway, the notebook cooler was actually in the desktop organization / office supplies dept. not the computer dept. where they have some other coolers.

It's also adjustably in two layers, so the top layer props up for comfortable viewing/typing angles.

Oh, and it was $15, which was cheaper than any other cooler I've seen or the ones walmart carries in the computer dept.

    Dude....
The fan you've put in there is a 12v Computer case fan.
USB plug will give it only 5V so LEDs don't get enough juice to glow!

You'll need to re-wire the LEDs with appropriate resistors to get them working.

    Nice work tough...
I made mine using transparent Acrylic and 28 Blue/White LEDs...
All glow great on USB and lend your laptop an exclusive UFO look!! :)

Will love to help ya with any regards
