Got my XPS M1530, and am seeing a few small quality control issues...heres an interesting one of the keyboard:

See these little metal things showing...they are all around the keyboard...normal or not? It doesn't bother me all that much, but it does seem to be one of those little issues you get with Dell. They keyboard seems to work fine btw.
-
Picture not showing up?
-
It isn't? It is for me.
-
I don't think mine does that.
-
So you see what I mean eh?
Anyone ever seen this? Seems like the keyboard isn't placed in it perfectly. -
I think it's normal. Looks like that on my M1330 as well. Other people have complained about the same thing. It is the design, not a manufacturing defect.
-
Yeah I'm not gonna send it back for that reason...but it really is not something that should be in a $1500 laptop.
-
its the edge of the keyboard, normal... for any dell anyway.
-
It looks like its not seated properly, have you tried reseating it?
-
Honestly,looks fine to me.
I don`t think you need to reseat it or anything. -
In mine too. I have taken out the keyboard twice (not to fix this, but for some other reasons) and in my experience thats as far as it goes underneath the palmrest.
-
to me it looks like the keyboard needs to be reseated
if you need help doing it just ask -
That is 100% normal!
-
It is perfectly fine. ALL dell laptops are like this. (and many other manufacturers also)
-
Mine's the exact same.
-
Ya it probably is normal. I'll have to see if my dad's 1720 is the same way. Of course that is a different model so who knows. I may eventually try to reseat the keyboard, but I'm not gonna go disassembling this thing just yet.
-
No, there's nothing wrong with it. That's how it's supposed to be.
-
Its looking OK.I did not find anything odd here.
-
You might wanna check if your keyboard is uneven. Dell might have put the wrong length screw like on this thread. It nearly drilled through the keyboard.
-
My Dell6400's keyboard is the same way.
-
That is actually normal. The lip aids in keeping liquids contained in the event of a spill.
-
It is normal. Stop being so picky.
Its just the edges of the keyboard, with some parts that stick out to keep it in place.
Would you prefer the keyboard be glued into place with no edges seen??
Seriously, I work with hundreds of Dell laptops, and every make and model is the same. Its not a defect. -
It is like that.
-
mine looks exactly like that. exactly. i don't think there is anything wrong.
-
mine has it to looks normal to me
-
Thanks everyone that chimed in. Makes me feel better now
-
Mine is like that too.
You can see little metal bits on the edge.
Im a bit worried dust can esaily gather there but meh. -
Isnt that the "spill proof" bit?
