I have 1 simple problem and I am hoping to find an answer throughout this site. I have a set of surround system 5.1 Dell brand that I have on my Dell 8400 Desktop. I am trying to connect this surround in a different room where I have my M1530 but I just cant get the speakers to work. If anyone knows anything about this please help me. If there is anything I need to configure in the laptop please let me know!...or maybe is not possible?!?  HELP

You will need to install the Sigmatel drivers. If you search Sigmatel in the control panel (assuming you're running vista), it is called "Sigmatel Audio" or something like that. If you are fresh installing the drivers, you need to go into the windows audio settings and tick "disable all enhancements" or there will be a delay on sound output.

Unistall the previous driver first from the Device Manager. Restart. Then install the Dell driver (or newer one from Sigmatel's website).

Ok. I finally got the Sigmatel Driver to install and work. Now, when I plug in the 3 cables infront of the laptop...the sigmatel device window where the 3 holes appear, show up to be working, but I still get no sound and everything seems to be plugged in correctly. Let me know what this is about please..

    Did you do this already?

    Also, you could check...
    Right click on sound icon
    select "playback devices"
    Make sure "Speakers/Headphones" says "working"

Also, you need to set the ports to the surround sound options by right clicking on each port in the sigmatel manager.

Try disabling the HDMI output (unless you use it). Do the sound ports work with headphones/microphones?

Yes the sound port works with headphones. I dont know why the 5.1 surround dont work. I already tried disabling the HDMI and still no sound. Let me know if pics of where I am plugging in the cables help. This cant be this complicated...

Right click on "Speakers / Headphones" and choose "Configure Speakers" and choose "5.1 Speakers" and go through the prompts.

    I'm having this problem now.

Basically the 5.1 is done OK. It registers each speaker individually on teh config thing.

But when I try and play AC3 sound it isnt in surround

Are you sure that the content is in surround? Or it could be the codec you are using?

Yeah, It is AC3 which is surround. Plus its being decoded using FFD so I know its doing it properly
