Oh crap. Mine just went into production, and so I immediately presumes it would only be in production 1 or 2 days. But 3-4 weeks Lucidburner ?? Thats how long its been in production?! :(

I got mine about an hour ago, first post from it. A few little problems,
there are a few pixels stuck
    left speaker leds dont work
    base isnt very flat
Windows vista certificate of authenticity is ripped
Got the samsung screen, the light leaks at the bottom as reported by most other owners but i think the rest of the screens quality is fine.

I will be contacting Dell after my exams to get the led and the screen looked at.

I think its more due to the CPU..

If you play graw2 and check your cpu stats.. they are really high.. mine sits at 90%

Spent the whole day setting up my work development environment on my new 1730. Works great. Came with the LPL0032 - is that the same thing as the "LG" monitor people have been talking about?

Overclocked to a modest 3.0 GHz and no extra fan noise.

Uninstalled Google search and Google toolbar. Other than that, I only had to remove a few startup items and services.

Fortunately, the wireless driver is from Intel rather than the Dell driver that came with my 1710 (which caused endless headaches till I disabled it)

The screen is nice and bright. I think it refers to the display as LED in the bios rather than LCD and it appears to have a consistent, crisp, even brightness over the entire screen. Quite nice compared to the 1710.

At 3.0 GHz, super pi to 1M runs in 17.706s.

Tried out the Ghost Recon 2 game and it's pretty nice but i got killed pretty quick and had to get back to work!

So far, very happy with this acquisition. I did run out and get a 7 port USB hub, as I have a couple external hard drives that I regularly use in addition to a usb keyboard and mouse...

Putting this thing up on a notebook riser elevates the screen to eye level and also puts the lcd readout in good view.

    Keyboard backlight is pretty sweet.

So far so good. I promised some pics, but the ones i took were a bit blurry, so I'll follow up on that soon.

This is the best machine I've ever had.

Eager to hear how others are doing...

Crysis, UT4 and CoD4 are demo;s right. none of these games are out.

i hooked up my comp to steam yesterday to purchase orange box 2 as my exchange rate has been running hot vs the Us (AUD$ here). its so cheap compared to the shops, half the price, so i decided i will be purchasing CoD4 over steam too.

Ahh I loved the Orange Box! I already beat Portal and Ep2 and both were outstanding! Portal was a bit short however but ... yeh. :D Definitely replayable... on my M1730 when I get it.

So far, it's been in Boxing Stage for 2 days now! Yes, I'm in the US...

    And testing it, etc. :D

Ugh, but I have a busy Saturday and Sunday though...

OMG, you are so lucky zergworld, no fair! ;)

I'm totally envious and wishing that my XPS was here already so I could post some pics of it too. I dunno what people were whining about, but that thing looked sexy... I need to go clean myself now...

Keep them coming, and post some benchies/screenies or a vid or two! :D

screenie of the vista filesystem on the 1730. Notice the RAID 0 config shows as a single logical drive. The SSD shown is sitting in the expresscard slot, presently used for storing portable docs and such.

Not sure what the recovery drive is for, but perhaps for vista system restore points?

Hey guys I'm stuck with something.

I have been trying to install the updated drivers on my 1730 and I keep getting the message "cannot find any compatible hardware".

The problem is I cannot even install the old driver back! Now I am on a graphic driverless system. Can someone please help!!!

Make sure you uninstall / delete the current vista default driver again, unpack your nvidia drivers into a directory and when it detects specify the driver yourself immediately.

I had a similar problem a while ago with my 8800GTX and this sorted it out.

Hope it works for you mate.

    task manager.

Without any open (windowed) applications and with the following trayed items

    1. Bayden Slick run (command line app launcher)
    2. Microsoft Office One Note
    3. Trillian
    4. EditPadLite

    memory usage is already 1.19GB

I was happy to see that 3.26 (out of 4) GB of physical memory was visible to the OS. I also have 3.25 visible on my vista 1710 with 4GB installed (which has 256mb vid mem versus the 512 here)

After closing all trayed apps, leaving just the system icons, it went down to 1.17, so xps/dell config on vista is a memory hog.

I didn't see too many services to shut down either. Maybe others know of some unecessary services. By the way, google desktop search and toolbar came pre-installed, but there wasn't much of any other cruft... perhaps they just didn't have time to install all that crapware...

On another note, I just ran Auslogics defrag tool, and while it was running, I started wondering if it is appropriate to defrag against a RAID 0 (striped disks). I did some research, and the general outlook is that the OS views this as a single logical disk and the raid controller does what it does. So, defrag doesn't hurt and furthermore defrag still helps in terms of performance overall.
