looking forward to some "pro" reviews, isn't it weird that none of the sites have reviewed the 1340 yet??

Hmm I do not see the "heat" issue as a real problem... If your XPS gets damaged due to heat, dell will repair it... And frankly I do not care If my bed gets warm ^^ Ok using it on your lap might be a problem, but I somehow am wondering why people think that a small laptop + TWO graphic-"cards" wont equal in heat... Do you play games when having your laptop on your lap?
Last time I played something on my M1330 I had it on a table... But ok, that is just me.

I have a question about the display. I know there are many reflections, is it considerably worse than with the M1330? Is the display bright enough so you can see enough e.g. outside?
For the that could be the only problem... I would like to use the laptop not only in my basement or during the night ;)

On the danish dell website, when you are in the XPS 13 or 16 configuration window, it says that "the delivery time currently is extended with 3 weeks".

I hope this do not mean they are having trouble or that it will influence my order from 15th of Jan

I canceled mine this morning... I just couldn't wait any more for it. It's been 3 weeks since I ordered it, and it wasn't even in boxing stage yet. With everything else, and that super glare/shiny screen, I think I'll just wait. I'm not desperate for this -- But, I was looking forward to it.

You'd think for close to $2100 CAD, you'd get something close to perfect for features, heat issues, and overall design.

    Doh. :(

I got news that mine is in the Shipping stage. However, the tracking number is yet to be displayed on the Status Order page.
    The delivery date says 02/06/09
I have a basic question I couldnt get anywhere so far (at least I didnt read it yet). What is the screen resolution for the LED screen? All i could get was WXGA or something.

That screen glare is not bad at all (for me it's not even a problem). Most people complaining about glossy screen never actually used them, but just saw their reflection while passing by in the store :) I'm concerned about other things: heat, eSATA port, hybrid graphics switching, etc. But i don't know if I can blindly believe everything, i guess i wanna test it first myself.

Anyways, sorry you had to cancel that. I haven't ordered mine yet, still waiting for the first couple of complete reviews to make up my mind. Also, how come it was $2100 CAD? I configured with max options and arrived to about $1800-1900 CAD.

EDIT: Is that with BC tax included? Do you have EPP?

All are 1280x800, perfect for a 13" IMHO. You can always connect an external monitor and get any other resolution on the monitor that the monitor supports, for example connect a 24" monitor and on the monitor you'll get its native resolution, say 1920x1200, etc. while still having 1280x800 on the notebook screen.

You mentioned the heating issue. For me personally, that's the only one problem (everything else, including eSATA, switchable graphics is fixable, I believe). Therefore, I was wondering how hot does it get when it's run only on 9400? The reason I ask this is that I'm not gonna use 9500 when the notebook sits on my lap, but only when using it on the desk of course. I just want to know if it's comfortable with 9400. Thank you!

haha, i knew you'd ask that! ok, maybe not an appropriate comparison, but the keyword is "satisfaction", which is very subjective. we both can buy the same notebook model, and you might hate it and I love it.

i haven't found my ideal notebook yet, it doesn't even exist yet. That's right, even Studio XPS 13 is NOT ideal: it's heavy, it has that leather which i don't like, it has those silly silver bars on the bottom of the screen, the cover and palm rest surface is glossy fingerprint magnet, it doesn't come with Blu-ray, etc, etc. BUT, looking and comparing with other alternatives, this one is the best. Remember, it's all subjective, and I know that you don't agree. But let's be friends anyways! :D

Lexus don't worry. I was just trying to extract as much information as possible. I thinking to get HP dv3, as it is much cheaper for my needs - travel companion and multimedia box. just need to decide which processor to go, but in HP thread is silence as well on this topic... :)

My 1340 shipped today! It had an original ship date of 2/13. I'm kinda nervous. wish me luck. For anyone who had theirs delayed and are curious of my specs: everything was stock except P8600, WLED, and Bluetooth and I live in southern California.

even if dell was shady enough to try to pass off refurbished computers as new ones, i don't think anyone has had one long enough to return it and have it shipped to you already. i think you're safe.

no, they haven't given reasons for the delays.

I hope you're rite! I just started to wonder why mine would be bumped up 10 whole days. Also The info could be wrong but the site gives a ship date of 2/3 and a delivery day of 2/4! I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I just found this on Youtube, but it's mostly a lot of waiting for programs to load/start.

    Review:
    http://apcmag.com/australian-exclusive-dells-xps-m1340.htm

Graphics card sounds a little disappointing. I just hope that the games I will play won't be too demanding. Everything else sounds good! Although they didn't really get too into potential issues like the vent placement etc.

By the way, it came out of Nashville and should be coming tomorrow.

I'm confused, are the processors on the 1340's Core 2 Duo's, or Centrino 2's, and whats the big difference? sorry for being a newb.

Good for you. I'm waiting for my 1640 and it worries me more when it's in testing stage for 6 days already. Dell sucks

It is centrino 2 mate, this processor belongs to the core 2 duo family, so core 2 duo is also another the name of it. Nothing to worry about

    ^^^ Beaten.

Both. Centrino isn't the name of a processor, it's a configuration of certain Intel components. Core 2 Duo is the processor.

EDIT: Oops, 1340 isn't a Centrino - it doesn't have the Intel chipset. Thanks LexusForever.

Okay, because I've seen the Centrino 2 stickers on any other lap tops from other manufacturers, but all the stickers I've seen on the 1340's from pictures or videos say Core 2 Duo, I just found that peculiar.

And what I found weird as well was that in the 1640 owners thread the first set of pictures posted early in the thread showed the 1640 with a Centrino sticker, no Centrino 2.

I just placed an order for my 1340 (P8600 2.4 GHz, nVidia 9400M, 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive)! My estimated shipping date is 02/11/09 with arrival being on 02/16/09! I'm very excited to be joining the rest of you in ownership of an awesome new Studio XPS and I'll be sure to post my results back here! Now I can finally say goodbye to my 4 year old Inspiron 8600 that can no longer even hold it's screen/lid up.

Let me clarify this for you and Nition. Studio XPS 1340 is NOT Centrino 2, because it uses NOT the Intel Centrino 2 (code name Montevina) chipset, but the nVidia MCP79MX chipset. That's the so-called "platform", which is the combination of 3 things: chipset (southbridge and northbridge chipsets), the processor and the wireless card. Now, don't confuse that with the processor (CPU) alone -- it uses the Intel Core 2 Duo processors, the P-series (25W): P8400, P9500, P9600, etc.

    So,
    Centrino 2 (Montevina) ? -- No
    Core 2 Duo ? -- Yes

To make this notebook a Centrino 2 notebook, it must have: an Intel chipset (it doesn't, because it uses nVidia chipset) + an Intel processor (it has it, the Core 2 Duo) + an Intel wireless card (it doesn't have it, uses Broadcom aka "Dell 1510" or Atheros aka "Dell 1515" wireless cards). In contrast, the 1640 is Centrino 2 notebook, it can be configured with all Intel components.

    Hope that helps!

Well, my notebook arrived yesterday, but the idiot FedEx guy didn't even knock or ring the doorbell...and I was sitting right inside about 5 feet from the front door. I took off work yesterday so I'd be there to receive it.

A neighbor saw him just go up to the door and place a tag on it. He didn't even have the box in his hands. Said he would reattempt delivery today. Guess I need to go home and sit on the front door steps :-/

    this is nuts

did dell put their orders in a powerball machine and the first ones to come out get shipped first?

some people getting theirs shipped two weeks early while mine and others have been delayed for two weeks?

Out of curiosity, out of those who ordered and received notice of earlier shipping than estimated, how many made a Dell account and how many didn't? (just a hunch)

You should call and find out which part is delaying your order.

Also, don't forget to take into account different locations and different countries into the process.
