Where have you seen the 9 ceel for the 1340?

I haven't seen anything about it on the UK Dell website. 9 cell only seems to exist for the 1640.

It was on the norwegian site 2\2, but not choseable.
It was 9 and 6 cell combo, not only 9 cell.

So i think 9-cell it on its way ;)

I unplugged the power at exactly 1:00pm PST.
At 1:00pm it was at 100%.
At 2:02pm it was at 50%.
At 2:35pm it was at 10%.
    At 2:41pm it was dead.

For the first 45 minutes or so from 1:00pm to 1:45ish I was copying files wirelessly from my old notebook to this one. From then on, just had it sitting here next to me playing iTunes music through the headphones while working on my regular desktop.

So... 45 minutes of it doing "heavy" work and 45 minutes of basic idle I'd say. Total of an 1 hour and 41 minutes before the battery died. The screen display was at 50% brightness/power (whatever you call it) the entire time.

Wow. I need the 9 cell now. No way I'm going to be able to make a flight from So Cal to Texas with that!

Maybe it's on it's way then but I spoke to a Dell sales person today and they told me that the 6 cell is only available for the 13 where the 6 and 9 cell is available for the 16 but UK customers do have to deal with indian call centres and by the amount of misleading info and wrong I wouldn't trust any info they tell me as accurate. I would trust a complete stranger more like on this forum as information here seems better than from Dell themselves.

I heard that the battery works "best" after a couple of charing cycles? In a different forum a user had similiar "problems" but was able to get 3h+ after a couple of cycles...

With 56 Whr your laptop used 33W/h ... That is just not normal... Did you forget to turn of the SLI?

I just got off the phone with a US Dell sales rep (spoke great English, was definitely not in an Indian call center) and he was not successful in finding a 9 cell for the 1340. He was going to check with some other people and see what he can find and call me back. He said he was messaging a coworker and they haven't seen it either.

Well I can just tell you that i talked to a dell sales person from the US. And he told me that the 9 cell is very hard to get and right now only available as an acessory for 180$
Under specs the 9 cell is also listed:
    http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-studio-xps-13?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

And I am getting a replacement Studio XPS 13 (for my M1330) WITH a 9 cell... My (german) sales person did say that it was quite hard to get though...

    [€dit]
And I also gave some info on different colors ;) Aswell as the battery life.. Should be on par with the M1330

My computer can go for 4 hours...I turned off SLI and had wifi on and bluetooth. I wasn't playing music or anything on it and when I did put in a dvd, the battery drained pretty quickly. With SLI, maximum is about 3 hours here.

Yeah I know US Dell customer service is good. We in the UK have to deal with indian call centers and the service is rubbish, I won't even go into how bad but my experiences of Dell since outsourcing are bad. The only good thing for UK Dell customers in my eyes is aftercare when a technician calls but that is another company they use sub contractors to fix systems.

I sometimes ask US Dell customer service for information on things as UK customer service is a waste of time.

Let us know if you find anything out about if there is a 9 cell for sure for the 1340.

That would be awesome, thanks. It's not vitally important, I'm just wondering if it's affecting everyone's or just mine.

Put vista in "power saver" mode. It should show on the screen that it's changing the graphics to "save power" state.

Well this computer is beginning to grow on me. I like the smoothness of the palm rests and the keyboard/touchpad issue can be lived with, but I'm going to think about it some more tonight. Right now what's bugging me is the oil on your fingers stain the keys on the keyboard and while I can live with the plastic being a fingerprint magnet, it makes the keyboard look dirty. IE has frozen on me once but that's just a Vista issue I think. If I do decide to keep this, I will most likely do a clean install. By the way, no scorching heat so far...

I live in downtown Nashville and the computer came next day after it was shipped. Of course, I had next day air but still...it's no faster than regular next day air if you had that. It goes out of the Nashville Dell plant.

By the way, boxing for me took 5 days not including Sat/Sun. Also, FedEx delivers packages on Saturday here. My printer was shipped Friday and I got it on Saturday.

Talked to a guy who got 1340. He says that out of the box he had some issues, like freezing/hanging, not returning from sleep mode, etc. However, he deleted Dell's partition on the hard disk (you know, that hidden partition), then formatted the disk, made a fresh install of Vista 64-bit, and all those problems were gone! He says he's greatly enjoying it now.
I think that's something to try! (Assuming you know how to delete partitions, not only reinstall the operating system). :D

Normally yes, but I was also referring to a case when you do that from Recovery Console, etc. so that you don't accidentally delete the primary partition and then if you don't know how to create a new, get stuck there, without being able to install Windows. Or you accidentally don't delete other logical partitions where you might keep your documents, music, etc (assuming you haven't done any backup). But normally yes, it's all pretty straight-forward.

Well, my 1340 has completed production and is being shipped from the factory according to their online tracking. I ordered on the 3/2/09, which is only 3 days ago. That's fast!

The closest Dell factory is Malaysia, I think. My ESD is 12th Feb, but if it's really in shipping already it should only take a few days to get from Malaysia to here (Melbourne) hopefully.

    Specs:
    P8600 2.4ghz / 3GB DDR3 / 320GB 7200rpm / WLED WXGA / 256mb 9500m / 6 cell / Vista Home Premium 64-bit / BT

Probably just because Dell uses different plants to supply different parts of the world, who all have different parts in stock, and different assembly times, and different shipping routes. Australia and Canada aren't necessarily going to be the same.

Bad news for me. My Studio XPS 13 arrived today but it keeps freezing and I got 2 BSOD's all in the first day. I was on the phone with a tech support for over 2 hours and he thinks my hard drive is the culprit. I mentioned that other people were updating their bios but he dismissed that rite away and said it is most likely my hardware.

OK I took lexusforever's advice and did a clean install of Vista however I left the Dell partition alone, and everything has been very stable now. If I do a factory image restore all the problems start again so something is not working there for me. The clean install is better for me anyhow since I try to keep things stripped down as much as possible. The only thing I missed with the clean install is the lack of Dell's dock, (I've been using Macs for years so I like this feature) However I installed Stardock to replace it and it seams much better then Dell's anyhow. Now I can truly say that I really like this computer. It was a good choice for me.

    Hi everyone,
I finally got my laptop. I couldn't stay home (like some of you folks) as i had to go to office. I had to drive 3 hrs (both ways) to get it. Now i am home and typing on it :)

    Initial impressions:
    • Quiet(no ipower hungry applications just browsing and saving files)
    • Sturdy
    • Manageable weight, not too heavy, not light either (maybe heavy for a 13")
    • Warm when running but not unbearable
      Made in Malaysia

    Likes
    • Construction
    • Relatively silent keyboard (compared to my Latitude D620)
    • Rubber protrusions on the edges to avoid the keyboard from scratching the edge-to-edge glass
    • Pretty cool video chat features (color settings, mirror reflection, lighting, backlighting, and a lot more)
    • Facial recogition
    Dislikes
    • Right-click key next the left arrow key (i keep pressing it when i want to press the left arrow key. Not sure if this is a keyboard layout problem or the size of the keys. I feel the arrow keys are placed a bit further away from where it usually placed on keyboards. I may be wrong)
I am not a gaming person and mine is the default machine (no changes) so dont know if I could test the machine for gaming folks. I am not that

Let me know if you have any queries. I've taken pics...I'll upload them if anyone wants to see anything in particular.

I read that but unfortunately I don't know anything about partitions. I'll do some research and give it a try though. You say the Dell partition is hidden? Will I be able to see it, or do i not need to?

Thanks. I would really love to keep this and not try my luck with another.

lexus mate, the only Dell partition i see on my 1340 is one called "RECOVERY". I presume Dell uses this to keep their factory image etc on it?

Is this the one you are proposing that we remove?

Would be great if you can give us a bit more clarity around what your friend did - seems a lot of us are having similar issues - so you could be helping a few of us out :)

    hi rejox,

Yes, correct, the factory partition. It is needed if you wanna restore the notebook to its original state (just like you received it) by using Dell's recovery discs. However, if you know how to install the operating system manually, you don't need that partition, as it serves no purpose.

Basically delete all the partitions, except the primary partition (on which you will install the operating system) and also keep the logical partitions (if you already created them). Good luck, and please report back if that really worked. I'm also curious.

OK, that's not really a hidden partition, but I understand what you're saying.

I'm getting a replacement laptop regardless from Dell, so happy to crash and play around with this one. If that one doesn't work, then i'm returning it. I don't want a laptop that cannot go into sleep mode. Really defeats the purpose of being 'ultra-mobile', as they claim. I move around a lot with my laptop, so I need it to be able to get in and out of sleep mode to preserve the 2 hour battery life on this beast.

Got a few things to try tonight, including rolling back the BIOS version (a new one A02 was listed on the dell support site), and rolling back the video drivers etc.
Will do the quick format and reinstall as a last resort!

I'll report my results back into this thread where the sleep mode issue is being discussed:

A bug to report...while my computer can wake up from sleep, it seems like the wireless card can't find any networks after long periods of sleep! I have to disable it and re-enable it...ummm yeah I'm hoping this can be fixed by doing a clean install of Vista, which I have yet to do.

UPDATE: nm...it seems that the computer disables the wifi/bluetooth during sleep and you simply have to press the button above the keyboard to re-enable it...still seems kind of silly.

Sorry buddy, I had initially kept it private without realizing that. So now you should be able to see the pics.
