Where did you download this driver ? I can remember that I tried to download the newest on NVIDIA's site, but during the installation, I can only install the HD Audio Module; no other option to install the Video driver. Where can I find yours ?

    Dell Alienware m17x Support/Drivers or laptopvideo2go.com.

These drivers aren't signed, but don't be intimidated by that, they're quite stable.

On the official Dell support site, I see 2 video drivers for the M17x (GTX 260 and GTX 280) so which one do I have to pick ?

No, there's only one with the version number of 186.12. Check the forth column.

    Edit: I've attached an image.

He was asking the diff b/w the 260/280 driver (which there isn't one)....

Hmm, that is what I am using (I misspoke earlier) but I only get up to a 4.8 with both GPU's enabled (the 9200M GS + 9400M G) and a 4.4 with only the 9400M G enabled in Windows 7.... Mind if I ask what score you guys were getting in Vista? IIRC your score is more comparable to my Vista score.

Did you use this driver for Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64 ? When I use it with Windows 7 it doesn't work :(

The same score for me in Windows 7 ! A 4.8 for my 9400 + 9200 and 4.4 SLI disabled. Under Vista it was 5,5 with SLI !

I get 4.5 with SLI Disabled, and 4.8 with SLI Enabled. I'm running WIN 7 x64.
    Disabled

    Enabled

If there are conflicting scores with 1340's just compare the component and see which piece of hardware is getting a better or worse score.

    Here is my WEI Score

Even when I installed the M17x driver, I would only have 4,8 for my graphics card (equivalent to DOX Forceware 185.85) I really want to have it at least above the 5

I dunno how they got it above 5 (I mean 4.4/4.5 isn't even near 5.3) with only the 9400M G. Can anyone else without a 9200M GS installed test it as well?

Nice red theme by the way XD.

Vista's WEI is different from Windows 7's, so you can't do a direct comparison.

Vista's tops out at 5.9 while 7's is higher....

Oh, your running the Windows 7's RTM...I'm on Windows 7's RC still. Is anyone else with the 9500M GE running the RTM release? There may have been changes to DX 11 or the grading system affecting this score as most of the other benchmarks line up appropriately.

    I'm running Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) also ;)
And once again, I'm getting the 4.5 and 4.8 scores...

    EDIT: Oh I totally forgot to mention, I have a p8400, not a p8600.

Ahh, that's right...I forgot the P8400 was an option on the SXPS. I was surprised by the "0.3" difference if there were only a .13 GHz clock speed difference per core.

Awesome scores ! The strange thing is that you have a higher score for gaming graphics that me, while you have a 9400M and I have a 9500M. My 'graphics' score is higher though (I had a 5,9 for that cat. while you had 5.2). Can you please explain me, or give me like the exact file you used for your Nvidia driver ? I also have the Windows 7 RTM, etc. ...

Dell Alienware m17x Drivers Page, there's a few graphics drivers for it, but make sure you get the one that says 186.12 on the version column.

    I have a 9500M in my 1340 also...

Some stuff you can check... making sure your system is set to high performance. Try running the test in both single GPU mode and Hybrid mode.. sometimes the scores are a higher in different modes.

Ok a quick update: I managed to install the M17x 186.12 driver on Windows 7. In power save mode my scores are:

    Processor: 6.0
    Memory (RAM) : 5.9
    Graphics: 5.1 (!)
    Gaming Graphics: 5.5 (!)
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.7

In High-Performance Mode I surprisingly had a lower score !

    Processor: 6.0
    Memory (RAM) : 5.9
    Graphics: 5.8 (!)
    Gaming Graphics: 4.8 (!)
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.7

Almost identical to my 185.85 (DOX Forceware) video driver. I think that the drivers are not fully SLI compatible yet, but if somebody has a solution, I'd be really happy !

    Hello All,

Just received my XPS1340 today and this thing rocks for being 13 inches. However, it does get quite hot. I have updated the drivers to the best of my knowledge and the GPU is version 7.15.11.7982. I was wondering if I need to update anything else or maybe roll back some drivers for cooler performance? Any other advice would be appreciated. However, other than the heat this thing is awesome. Never thought I would be able to get a 13 inch machine packed with a 2.4ghz, 7200 rpm 500gb hard drive, 9500m gpu and etc. for under a grand. This thing handles games much better than I expected from all the posts saying this laptop is not for gaming. This thing handles games like a charm for its size.

Welcome to the Studio XPS 1340 Owner's Thread :)
There is a simple procedure you can follow which will help lower your heat as much as 20C! Many SXPS 1340 Owner's have had great success with this procedure and you will too ;)
    Here is the guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5247927#post5247927

If you want better GPU performance (or more control over the GPUs), I suggest installing Nvidia's beta 186.03 from the Dell m17x driver page.

^^Thanks for the info. I might have to try replacing the thermal paste, but I never like taking laptops apart. Is that driver compatible with Vista 64 bit? Right before it downloads the save file says vista32 bit? thanks

I've got the studio xps 1340 with the Nvidia Geforce 9400M G anyone tried and successfully installed any other drivers for this motherboard - video card than the ones on the the dell website?? If so can you tell me if there has been any improvements in heat or operating with the newer drivers.

What games are ideal for the Studio XPS 1340 ? I currently only have COD4, and it plays ok (All high settings, and AA turned completely off) It is still a little bit laggy, but it's very playable.

    UPDATE:

There has been a new Driver released 2 days ago ! You can find more information on this page:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=412578

It works really well ! And the best thing is that it is certified by Windows (WHQL). One more question, since I upgraded to Windows 7, I haven't seen that Nvidia picture anymore, when you change the GPU (like in the middle of the screen power saver --> performance boost). Also it is not linked with the Power options anymore. Anyone know how I can link them again ?

With the 9400M G you can just grab them off of Nvidia's website. The only reason to use Dox's drivers or the M17x's drivers would be if you have Hybrid SLI which require special driver releases. I'm not sure if there would be any heat difference but there certainly are performance improvements.

Guys, I am contemplating buying a sxps 13 as I work away a lot and my sxps 16 is just too heavy to lug as well as my work laptop.
I have a couple of questions, as I have seen some reasonably priced on the outlet.

    1. Is the CCFL screen any good and does it get bright enough to use outdoors?

    2. Is the 9500 capable of playing DOW2? Its the only game I really play and if it cant play it I wont bother with it

Thanks in advance for any help

I don't know if its possible, but can you enable solely the dedicated GPU instead of the 9400M? I'm just curious on whether it can be done.

I would recommend you install Windows 7 + Virtual XP Mode. Because now you have all the drivers working (Although I still dont get the maximum performance out of my 9500M0) + all the XP applications if you like

    * When you deinstall the CISCO apps (the 3 files LEAP/EAP, etc.) what consequences will you get ?

I would love to do that...but I can't. I need to run some XP SW to work... and I am stuck with this video problem...I don't need a high performance video, but my screen is kind of working in frames here....crazy!

I've tryed to use the modder already, but it was unsuccessful...
