What is going on with Dell computers and Windows 7? I just received my new XPS 15, created a Windows bootable recovery disc, and it won't boot up and displays this error code: 0X4001100200001012

After googling the code, I found people have been having this problem with Dell computers and Windows 7 since 2009.

I called Dell and their solution is just to send me the Windows 7 OS installation disc.

They haven't found a fix in over 2 years?

Windows 7 install disk is better anyway. It doesn't have all the crap that Dell installs. It is a little more work to rebuild from, but it runs far better. Unless you enjoy spending a couple hours uninstalling crap, deleting registry keys, etc.

As for not finding a fix, well, Dell's service has slipped big time in the last 5 years. Their Customer Service/Tech Support used to be good, now, not at all.

Wait the repair disc or the actual recovery discs? Perhaps you had bad media?

No. Not bad media. The fix is to either use the Windows OS disc or
find a Windows 7 Repair Disc iso somewhere and burn it.

My week old XPS 15 cannot make its own Windows 7 x64 repair disc. >.<

My sister got an Inspiron last summer before starting college. It couldn't make the repair disk either, Dell's software said that the recovery partition was missing or corrupted...and this was within 1 hour of taking it out of the box...And when we ordered it for her, buying the Windows OEM disk was not an option they had for some reason. Dell overnighted a disk out though, and I did a fresh install and blew out the apparently broken partition. Been running fine for 10 months now.

Needless to say, I am not impressed by their backup software. You must not be either :D
