    hello notebook forums,
Please bare with me on this, i am having a horrible time with my xps 1530.
A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval.
    Stop Code 0x00000101

this is the bane of my life right now. I simply do not have a useable computer! I have wiped the hdd using parted magic, and installed vista ultimate 32bit. no windows update, just the nvidia drivers from dell support website installed. I get that stop: code at random times, sometimes stright after login, or 1hr browsing the internet. No games installed or tried.

I have contacted dell, and they have been out and replaced the motherboard (so to change the nvidia 8600m gt media card) but I am still getting the same system freeze.

Im sure its not software related, as linux (ubuntu, opensuse, fedora) all seem to randomly freeze and lockup just the same as in windows except no BSOD!

So does anyone seem to know whats going on here? I feel like it is a CPU fail ? I am currently running memtest86+ 3hrs, no errors.

    here are the specs
    XPS M1530 CORE 2 DUO T7250 2.00GHZ
    3gb ddr
    nvidia 8600m gt 256

... could i change this processor, does the replacement need to be 65nm?
    http://www.cclonline.com/product-categories.asp?category_id=450

i look forward to hearing from my fellow xps owners!
    x

When they replaced your mobo did they change the CPU as well? If not that is what needs to be done.

thanks for the prompt reply... no, they did not replace the CPU. I am unsure what motherboard they actually installed. I am 90% sure its a processor problem as the motherboard is brand new, and the ram seems okay when memtest86+ is running..

I am due to speak with them on friday. I am currently running the T7250 which is 65mn. Can I upgrade to a different 2ghz chip using 45nm?

Yeah the motherboard will be able to use the Penryn chips released early last year.

I recommend you talk to tech support and try to solve the problem first. If it is processor's fault, then they are supposed to replace it for ya. Also, just so you know, replacing the system's processor voids warranty...nah, when it comes to warranty, you can just put the old processor right back in and you're good to go. Good luck!

The T8100 will work, but the P8400 won't work. Laptop CPUs are pretty expensive so I would have Dell replace it.

So i would be good to go with a slightly better processor with this 'board?

    ps. thanks for support...

Im a bit out of the loop tech wise these days, is the p8400 a different socket to the t range or something. or is it to do with the fsb ?

The P8400 uses the same socket (Socket P), but it has a 1066MHz FSB. The 965 chipset in the M1530 only supports up to 800MHz FSB.

thanks for clearing that up mr wolf.
I am running dell's diag at the moment. custom scan, on the processor. set it to 10,000 reps. but so far, it hasn't reported an error on the cpu.

it HAS to be the processor, doesn't it? surely it isn't software as linux reports the same problems. i just need to know deffo, so i think the only way my mind will rest on this is transplanting the brain

    .........
    also, i had dell on the phone today, they got me to use dellconnect. where they take control of your computer over the net. it was weird, like a real advanced trojan!.. anyway, the dell tech was on for 30 minutes and i was willing my pc to crash (weird i no) but just to show them the problems i have been experiencing. sods law it didnt;
all he done whilst controling my mouse, was to change the "windows problem reporting" to disabled i was in stiches.
That oviously didnt solve the prob, only cover it up.
    +1 dell

fox1, I think you should go to safe mode, and upgrade your system to the up-to-date version of BIOS and try to be in safe mode for a while,...see what happen next.
From my views, I think the problem may came from:
1, the motherboard is NOT compatible with the CPU (thats why you may want to update your bios)
2, check your memory (RAM), they need to be in the right socket, to be compatible with the motherboard and to be working normally
3, microsoft's fault (the issue of vista using 4GB of ram), you may want to look into it and download their hotfix
    4, soundblaster's drivers?
    5, graphic card's problems?
these are the possibilities....Anyway, T8300 and T8100 should work....hope this helps

    1) I am running A12 bios, dell's support says thats up-to-date
    2) I have 1x 2gb and 1x 1gb. does it really matter which one is in what slot?
    3) it probably isn't ms fault for once, as linux is having the same problems with staying stable (mouse randomly locks up , have to 'hard' shutdown)
    4) I think my laptop uses Sigmatel sound, & i have dloaded from dell's support website the correct "shipped" drivers..
    5) I did think it was to do with nvidia drivers, but even when re-formating, and installing either linux, or vista and then just 'leaving it alone' to idle, it locks! or maybe it wont, thats how random the freezes are. to date, i have not had one single day without a crash.
    6) thanks for the cpu info, i think the t8100 is good value.

sorry to re-vive an old thread, but i'm still having the same difficulties with my 1530.

.. i've had the motherboard changed twice!!! same BSOD 0x00000101 from a fresh install of vista.

Just ordered an t8100 processor in the vain attempt to sort this blasted laptop.

hope everyone at nbf is having a great day x
