    Hello,

I've had my laptop for under a year and my battery is much worse than when I first got it. I seem to recall reading about some feature of the xps laptops that I may return the battery within 1 year, no questions asked. When I called up they said I would need to call back when I'm in front of the computer. Is anyone aware of the battery return policy for xps laptops?

They told me if there's a defect I could exchange it within a year (afterwards no luck.) I'm a bit worried that they'll say this is just normal use, even though the dell website says battery decline is normal after a year.

Sorry if there's a thread about this topic already. I did a search and couldn't find it.

    Thanks,

    Rich

First of all I did a search and couldn't find anything on this

"Batteries have one year of warranty and if there is any technical issues with the battery within the first year, dell will issue a replacement"

quote from a dell rep from today, so yeah, 1 year, but of course dell will want to trouble shoot the problem, never heard of a no questions asked policy from dell, it is impossible for them...

Hey about 2 weeks ago my 9 cell battery wouldn't hold a charge on my 1530..No matter what attempts I did to resolve the issue it still wouldn't hold a charge.

I call XPS Tech Support, and they were awesome. Even though I was about 10 days over my 1 year warranty on the battery ~ they still sent me a new one, and overnighted it! It was a one time courtesy, and I certainly appreciated it.

So things like failure to power/hold charge, etc...yes it is covered! :D

Thanks for responses guys. Unfortunately I called them up and they were no help at all. I still get a charge- just about 20% or so less than when I first got it. For a laptop only 9 months old this doesn't seem right (especially since I don't use it all that much and don't play many games or movies.

They're solution was to put it in saver mode. I couldn't believe it. I'm thinking I should call and talk with someone else.

Call XPS Support, tell them you have a defective battery (it won't charge), and that you would like them to send you a replacement per the 1 year warranty on the battery. ;)

They have to do this for you..It's not their choice for you to use *power saver* mode or not. The battery should work in all modes! :D

Let me know if that doesn't work, there is another route you can go about getting it replace...Called Unresolved Issues! :D

Yep...No Dell Rep, has the right to tell their customer to only use one Powersave Mode. That would be like me telling a Dell Rep to only use the bathroom once a day, at a certain time! :p

Sometimes..they forget what a Customer is, and what they mean to Dell. :(

Do reply if you managed this. My battery only holds 58% of the charge that it held when I first got it and Dell still refuses to replace it. I bought the laptop 10 months ago.

I can't say I'm satisfied with them at all.

    Hey!

    Click this link: https://support.dell.com/support/to...lcare/outstanding_issues_care?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Complete the form the best you can, and send it off. You are still w/in your 1 year period on a warranty replacement! :)

call them and tell them your battery sucks. they will try and persuade you tat it's not. tell them it stores half the 'run time' and that in quick set you get a 'healthy battery' report. they will change it. worked for me.

Thank you very much :) Unfortunately, I'm not in the United States, and Dell India has no equivalent unresolved issues page as far as I know. The customer support told me that they will only replace the battery if it holds around 10-15 minutes worth of charge. This is patently ridiculous.

P.S. Sorry for thread-jacking, should I just start a new thread?

    NP.... :D

Oh, that's too bad...I think maybe you should call them back and tell them what they told you about *holding a charge*. ;) Seem's like thats what they want to hear!

And, this thread is good..your both touching on the same thread topic at hand! ;) :D It's up to you, though!

Thanks alot for that link. I'll be out most of next week so I'll submit this when I get back. I may try to call tech support one more time first. I'll be pretty disappointed with dell if they don't do anything about it. They confirmed on the phone that after 1 year no matter what they won't do anything. I have until late april.

No, this isn't threadjacking at all. I'd appreciate all people with my issue or knowledge of it to chime in with their experiences.

Yes, no problem...I remembered when I called Dell regarding my battery issue ~ The tech asked me to check the power strip and ask him where it sat. I told him on only the *first bar*.

They do need to get you a new battery, there is no reason not to! Your's is faulty, and it is w/in the one year warranty.

If you use that link, be sure to advise us on the results. And, good luck to you! ;)

Hate to bump up an old thread, but I'd just like to share what finally happened with this issue. Eventually, the battery started only holding half the charge it was meant to (according to ACPI) and so I finally decided to call Dell and ask them to replace it.

Even though the Battery Health section in the BIOS said that I should buy a replacement battery, the Dell representative on the line said that Dell would _only replace batteries if they are not charging_, irrelevant of the charge it holds or the run time.

Hope everyone else has better luck. I've had a bad experience with Dell (2 motherboard replacements, a bad battery, and the computer is still iffy) and won't be going back when I replace my M1330 in a few weeks. Judging by the other replies (bogdi1988's, for instance) certain regions get better service than others so maybe I'm just unfortunate.

    Thanks for your help, `Cin.
I hope at least one of us got off okay, rstrauss33.

Best way to deal with Dell is to lie to them. Tell them it won't hold a charge and they will replace it. They will get the old one back and won't charge you.

Sad, but true. You have to fudge stuff with them quite often just to get them to hold up their end of the bargain.
