Hey. I'm getting the 128MB NVIDIA video card and Dell recommends that I get a 56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell). Is that necessary or can I just get the 4-cell battery?

It is not necessary unless you want better battery life. ;)

it'll improve your battery life a lot...

a 9 cell battery sticks out the back of the machine. the 4 and 6 cell batteries are flush with the rest of the laptop. keep that in mind.

The 4-cell will have a craptastic battery life with a dedicated card.

If you can spare the money, definitely get the 6 cell-- particularly if you'll be unplugged from AC power.

I didn't think the Dell configurator would allow you to configure a dedicated graphics system with a 4-cell battery. It will usually report a compatability error either during the build or prior to checkout. Even the DOMS tool can't bypass this. Has something changed in the past couple of weeks?

Definetly get the 6 cell or better. Whole point of having a notebook is to move it around.. for me at least.. so the longer the battery lasts the better.
