I have a 1 month old 1330, when the power is plugged in and when its not... if you tilt the screen forward it goes blank and then dims the screen and there is no way (that i have seen) to get the screen brighter... not even "function brightness"...

what problem is this? i have for the UK from South Africa for 3 week holiday on Wednesday... should I call a dell tech out to see the problem? or leave it.

Now how do i get it brighter... can hardly see what im writing.

What you are describing sounds to me as the screen dims simply due to the angle of view. All screens do that, to some degree. Some more than others. As long as its not the back light itself which is dimming, this behavior is "normal".

Or, did you mean it goes completely dark??

thanks for the response... i found out what causes it.
at the bottom of the panel at the back of the pc where the lcd ends...just at the XPS logo... if you press against that screen goes blank and dims. only way to get it brigter is to reboot or hibernate and wake up.

i leave for the uk on weds am. mon is a bank holiday. so not sure a dell tech will be able to come before i go away, ah well. ill sort it when i come back.,
