    Hi guys:

Yesterday my very much awaited XPS1330 arrived home. However, upon bootup and starting to browse a bit the web i became instantly dissapointed with the LED screen's image quality.

The screen is VERY bright... no wonder. However, colors looke terrible, extremely saturated and veryyy whitish/yellowish. It looks just like a cheap desktop LCD screen.

I previously owned an ispiron 1420 with a WXGA+ samsung screen and honestly i liked more that particular screen. It was no where near as bright, but colors looked reaaally really good looking.

My screen model seems to be a toshiba i think. Hardware ID says its a LCD2306.

Also, when i'm using the laptop on battery power i can "see" as the white LEDs sometime loose a bit of power, as if the brightness went very mildly up and down in very fast cycles.

What's going on?? Are all LED screens this way? (extremely bright, almost in the sense that everything in the screen looks white) Maybe i just got a bad one? I had only heard very good compliments on the LED screens so this is what makes me worry so much...

    thx

i have the latest X3100's drivers, and even though i have tried messing up with the color management i am unable to come nowhere as near as good colors as my 1420 showed.

I do understand LEds are supposed to be brilliant, but i can't understand how people will prefer a screen just to be more brilliant and whiter than having one a bit dimmer but with MUCH better colors...

I am not so sure about this though by no means am I a videophile, but my screen looks beautiful to me. I don't have a Tosh, I think I have the CM screen. It might be a case of expectations. Your eyes are unique and you are used to what they have been seeing.

It might be best if you can make a comparison with someone else's screen, if available. Otherwise, don't waste your time and get another to rule out a bad screen. My guess is that it is just your eyes.

    That's weird..
I have the same model (toshiba LCD2306) and the quality is good. Call dell and ask for a replacement, I'm sure you just got a bad one

I was disappointed with my Toshiba LED until I tried out the Samsung version which has marginally better contrast but too many other faults. My desktop monitor is an NEC 20WGX2 so nothing exists that can really compare to it for colours and brightness, remember that all laptop screens are low quality TN panels regardless of backlight.

the lg panels on the 1730 are the same way as your toshiba. ive been through 5 and thats just the way they are. i know someone who has the toshiba screen and its the same as you are describing yellows and blues are VERY saturated almost so bad they can not be corrected. even with calibration software and colometer's i can no make this screen look proper.

Exchange for another one. If you're still not satisfied, try the CCFL.

    Hey,
Since you just received your 1330..and the screen isn't at 100% for you that's not a good thing.....It would prob's be a good idea to call Dell and have them replace ;) :)

The LED should be simply awesome...!

    Cin ;) :)
