    Hi guys,

im about to buy my first laptop, ive narrowed the choice down to either the 1330 or 1530 XPS models.

has anyone used either of these with solidworks or catia CAD programs?

with both laptops id be going for 2gb RAM and the T7250 chip, but on the 1530 id upgrade to the 8600gt

also, other than the brightness, what's the benefit of the LED screen on the 1330?
having read through a few posts here, it seems that a lot of folks are having issues with the screens on both the 1330 and 1530, are Dell fixing this or are we stuck with these problems?

    Thanks

    Ed

Totally the 1530. A bigger screen is so important in those programs. Get it the highest resolution option on the 1530.

Both units are fine for your above use..
LED back lit is lighter easy on the battery better screen but some may differ. What you need to know has been covered before here.
I say don't look to much into the problems posted on this units..

    thanks guys,

i only get one option on the screen res here in the uk though, and its pretty low.
i think its only the strandard ccfl option (1280x900?) but i can cope with that.

I am running SolidWorks with COSMOS at the moment on my machine and it works flawlessly; even multiple models running simultaneously without lag.

My specs: M1330 2.2 T7500, Intel graphics, 4GB RAM, TMD LED

(I was worried the integrated graphics would hinder the programs but not and issue with X3100)

I am able to run Pro/Engineer just fine on my M1530. I don't see why either machine couldn't run either program just fine though.

I ran Solidedge v.20 on my M1330 with the NVIDIA 8400M GS and it worked fine--so long as you worked with the 3D models as wire frames. Trying to work with the models as solid pieces lagged my machine terribly.
