Does anyone know whether a 1340 with a 210m GPU has the same hybrid SLI setup as the 9500 configuration, or is it a more conventional discrete GPU that's always active?
-
its one gpu setup so its always on.. but that doesnt mean it wont have power saving technology to adjust, ex: my crappy 9400mg goes to lower setting when in power saver mode. 210m can be ran in sli but there has to be a second gpu present, thats not the case on xps13... I see you asking a lot of questions about this gpu, dont worry its the best the xps13 has to offer, even tho there arent any real benchmarks but nvidia suggests that its going to be twice faster than 9400mg and a lil faster than 9500m plus no lag..

^^ glad to help..but yet again thats in windows power savings settings, i dont know if linux supports this but as i heard nvidia has good driver support for linux
-
I use the 9400m on linex (Fedora 11) with the latest drivers from Nvidia. These linux drivers dont support sli / hybrid sli . But they do have the power management and it throttles my card (and also the 8400m GS on mt Vostro 1400) when the load is low.
Also the new drivers support VDPAU on linux , so you can decode videos using the GPU in mplayer and it works perfect. -
Well, it looks like the 210m configuration is a GeForce Boost Hybrid SLI setup. I'm a little disappointed by this, but we'll see how Ubuntu handles it before I think about a return.

Yeah, it came today, and it does have both a 9400 integrated and a 210m discrete.
-
? it doesnt say that on their site... but still it should lack since the 9500mge was bad because 9400m was paired with even crappier card.... Can you run 3dmark06 and 05 tests please???
Ooo and Congrats! Hope you will be lucky and wont experience any problems -
4668 on 3DMark06.

Hey Eric,
Did you try to run 3DMark06 with just the 210m(no SLI Boost)? How's the battery life with hybrid SLI? Heat?
It must be a let-down for Linux users though. Wish Dell would be more clear with their specifications. -
I can't see a way to turn on only the 210. It's all tied to the power scheme--in power saver mode, I get the 9400, and in high performance mode, I get SLI with 9400+210. It estimates only 2 hours or so of life in performance mode at full screen brightness, and it got quite severely hot during the 3DMark06 run.
Sigh. And Ubuntu doesn't detect the wireless. I'm sure that can be worked around, but this SLI business has me worried. It's fairly likely that I'll be returning it within the 21-day window. -
why would u return it? thanx for the score by the way!! my 9400m alone on 3dmark score gets very hot, thats normal the 3dmark is more like a very stressful test. In fact the most demanding game like crysis doesnt make it that hot as the 3dmark.. If you think of it its kind of better that it sli because if you take away 9400 your 3dmark would be a lot lower.. its a good combinations..
the 9500m sli combinations is horrible. but yours should be great!
whats your reason for not liking sli in ubuntu? it doesnt see one of the cards? if so which one,
we'll try to help you out dont worry.
can I ask you for one for thing? can u test it also in 3dmark 05, i wana see how it compares with my score of 4000,
on 3dmark05 your numbers should double or something like that -
I got my 1 week ago with 9500m...
so the
512MB nVidia GeForce 210M Grafikkarte - MLK
is better?
how about the battery life?
maybe I can still change it -
Eric, any update on this? Did you return it or did you find out a workaround to get it working on Linux?
Thanks -
How high would the temps of the G210M and 9400m be under load? Can u check with HWMonitor and post the results here..

all of the XPS13 models have a 9400. They add on the n210m and then you're able to get hybrid SLI.
I would know, my wife has the PC. There are TWO graphics cards and you can go into boost with a simple click of the mouse.
Also, with the 210m if you plan on gaming you have two options:
Purchase a Zalman NC1000 notebook cooler, which fits the XPS13 like a glove and the XPS fan never turns on...
OR
Purchase the bigger battery so that its propped up in the back (Sure you can use a DVD case or something too, the "propped up" method is not as good as a cooler)
EDIT: Heres a pic of the NC1000 under my wife's XPS1340.
