I checked the fps today in game and it was hitting around 13-17fps around skingrad in the grass. All settings on max. Is my computer not performing up to scratch?
I am using forceware 174.31 (from dell website from the 1520 laptop drivers)
sorry if its a bit nuerotic to start a new thread but i googled it and i havent come up with some norms for this game.

install new driver.
dell driver sucks -
Yea, get drivers from laptopvideo2go.com ,they are much better than the Dell ones.
-
what is the best driver for vista 32bit 8600gt? on laptopvideo2go
-
Can you 8600m GT owners run oblivion 1440 x 900 maxed? With all the sliders up? Including grass?!! POWER!
-
Yes. Its really not that graphically demanding. It looks like it is, but its a last gen game, just like Half Life 2.
-
don't laptopvideo2go drivers void your warrenty? They use modded INF's
what forceware versions is everyone using here? -
lol no way! Just head over to LV2G and get the latest driver available, and follow instructions properly when replacing drivers. Try the latest (at time of posting) 177.41 driver.
-
are you sure? i was worried they might, because i installed 169.00 something and it started hitting 82 degrees, it was rediculous. Changing the driver back helpded a lot, and seeing as temperature can damage your card i would ahve thought modded drivers really can void your warranty rights.
-
The newer driver are FAR more improvised over previous ones.
-
Drivers do not void your warranty. Hell you can pretty much take apart the whole entire laptop physically and not void the warranty.
-
i guess i'll see how dell percieves this temp problem ive been having, and if they replace it and it still wont run well i might get a cautiously selected driver.

I had no idea that you could get highs or max on Oblivion with the 8600. I had trouble with TF2 and Gears of War so I figured I'd stick to playing Oblivion on my xbox.
-
You shouldn't have any trouble AT ALL playing TF2 on your laptop. I play it on my 8400m GT\2.0Ghz core 2 duo maxed at 1280 res so you should run it without a problem. Have you updated your drivers? Running in performance mode? Plugged into ac adapter?

I'm using 177.41 right now and I generally use medium settings to play. I have the resolution set on 1440x900 and don't use vsync.
-
You must be getting 100 fps? What issues are you having with the game?

Idk it just doesn't seem to play as well as it did on my old crappy system which was a AMD 3700 (2.2Ghz single core), 2 GB ram, Radeon 1900xt. It has gotten better though since I updated my driver. I had no idea the driver was so important to the video cards performace. I think I upgraded the driver of my old card once in its two year life.
-
Yeah, well i get smooth gameplay in oblivion indoors and about 20-25 fps outside off the grass..
Lord gregious - I had uplayable FPS in oblivion (on many different settings) when i first got the M1530 using the drivers out of the box. Im using the dell certified Inspiron 1520 driver 174.31 and it boosted my 3dMarks from 4000 to 4700 and boosted gameplay significantly. -
Good drivers are needed for oblivion. I play it with the ones i have now; outdoors i get 40+ fps (no grass) and it's still laggy and unenjoyable. With other drivers i ran it at a higher res and it played alot better. I don't play it much anymore so i won't bother changing back.
-
so you were using an M1530 eh?
-
Nope sony with a 8400m GT..
-
oh ok. thanks

I got my graphics card replaced today, yet the game (oblivion) seems to be just as unsmooth, if not more choppy than before. Albeit i havent defragmented yet. The replacement, however, is a lot cooler than the previous card.
In any case, it seems like it might be the driver causing an issue, does anyone know if they have used 174.31 with oblivion? I am a bit annoyed that the only driver i was able to get dell to send me OTHER than the stock driver doesn't run oblivion great. -
The 17X.xx and 169.09 drivers don't run oblivion great for me. The only one that kept it smooth was 167.43, so it may be worth trying an older driver.
-
The 174.31's from dell are not crap, they are actually good drivers. I have no experience with on oblivion however. You could try the new WHQL drivers dell just released I think it was last week. You can get them from the inspiron or M1330 driver pages.
And about TF2 I suggest you go to the steam TF2 forums and start reading up. -
-
No it won't void the warranty. You need to download a modded inf with the driver for it to install on your laptop. There's a sticky in the gaming forum that goes into the process in more detail if you need it
-
No a LV2G driver will not void your warranty. Lets say if we lived in the twilight zone, and it did. I would never send my laptop in for service with the HD anyways. You take out the HD, and then they could not know which driver you used. Also with your XPS if you live in the US you get next day on site service. And most @ home tech's would never even check which version driver you had.
-
I run it on max with Dell's default drivers. Though I remember when on the other M1530 that I reformatted, I downloaded drivers for the 8600GT and it performed horribly.
-
Thanks forte, i might try and get the inspiron 1520 drivers from dell if i can convince a rep to send me a link. I would get LV2D drivers, but if i need to conceal them from dell, i dont really want to be dishonest, if there is a chance it is.
