Well, I finally made my way to my local Dell kiosk and ordered my 1520 (YAY!).
I asked my salesguy whats the story on the new 17 XPS, and he said there's very little info on it other than it is coming soon, then he told the big news was that they are bringing out a 15" XPS laptop. He didn't know anything about the specs, just that it's happening.

Thought some of you might like to know :D .

Yes, good to hear that! I expected it quite soon since the Intel Extreme processors and the 8800m are both on the verge of release.

Just as long as it has a Blu Ray option, an Intel Extreme option, HDMI, Vista Ultimate option, and a nice 17 inch screen with 1920by1200 for full HD, I'm set...haha. Long list I know!

15" XPS, hmm, it'll be a better deal I hope, than the 1520. If what you say is true, I'd expect it to come with HDMI + 8600M GT GDDR3. I'm not pinning on any hopes of the WLED on the 15" screen however.

    Very interesting indeed

It's not very surprising. They need something to fill the gap between the m1330 and m1710. Wouldn't surprise me either if they updated the M1710 at the same time as well.

My guess is it'll feature at least the 8700M GT, maybe even the 8800M GT if they can cope with the heat.

The 8800GT in a 15" dell? Not a chance in Hell...
The 8700GT is doable, but then it's nothing more than a 8600GT with higher clocks. I'd consider the XPS 15" only if it looks like the 13", with the same design parameters, and includes a OLED screen, BD writer. Nothing less...

I'm not convinced. The 1520 does a pretty good job of bridging the gap between the two xps models.

I would say their 15" gaming notebooks are more likely to come with alienware logos on them.

It is all a matter of sit, wait, and see what happens...

I can see the XPS line becoming more of a luxery line than a pure gaming line given the look of the 1330. I wonder if the design and look of new 15" and 17" XPS models would be like that of the 1330.

I think the XPS is more of a luxury line already that incorporate slick design with high end parts, with the success of the M1330, I am sure Dell would be considering adding more members to the XPS line.

When the focus is not on portability like the M1330 where light weight and battery performance is extremely important, I am sure Dell would put much more powerful video cards on the bigger XPS laptops with more focus toward 3d performance.

True enough if they stick an 8700GT in a 15" chassis..it will own the 15" gaming market..

But why wouldn't zepto or someone like that have done it already if they could..

OLED would be a TERRIBLE choice. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $100-200 for a laptop without an LCD screen, particularly since you'll only be able to use it for a couple of years tops.

I can't see it selling to anyone except people who don't understand the difference between the "8700" and the 8800.

PHOLEDs, then.. In any case, my point was that it should be significantly better than the current inspirons, and at least as good looking as the 1330.. What's the point of using cutting edge technology, if you are going to use it for beyond two years anyway?

    1920x1200 led, sexy as 1330, +8700GT,
    mmm. that's almost perfect.
    JBL sound

a rotateble touchscreen, now that's utopian.

Probably because the 8700M is too hot to put in a 15,4'' model?

The 8700M is aimed at 17'' machines.

1920x1200 on 15.4 = text is small as hell

higher res does not equal better

i'd like to see the 8700gt handle games at 1920x1200

    single digit fps FTW ;)

An 8700GT would already do single digits at 1280x1024 in modern games with the settings up :(

I would like to see them come out with an XPS 1530 or whatever, the more I look at the new inspirons, the less attractive I find them and it will be interesting to see if they bring out 15 and 17" XPS's based on the Inspiron chassis or if they have their own design like the 1330.
I can't see the 8700m GT being a problem in a 15",especially if it is as fat as the 1520,which is pretty much the same as a 17" notebook anyway.

Contest? Wouldn't that be a manufacturing contract? :D

Haven't heard anything like that, though it's certainly possible.
