Has anyone here done an XPS m1530 case mod? I'd like to take off the front panel of my 1530 and do a custom paint job on it, but from the few sites where I've seen instructions for disassembling the 1530 it seems like a huge hassle. If I weren't using spray paint, I suppose I wouldn't need to take it apart. But I'm new to case modding, and I haven't seen any mods done with anything other than spray paint. I know that there are non-spray paints made for plastic, so maybe that's an option... But it would have to be many thin coats to avoid brush marks.

    Thanks for your help!

Have you looked at the official service manual?

In general, it might be tedious, but it's not that hard to disassemble these things; just a couple screws here and there. Besides, tearing it apart and rebuilding it is half the fun :D I'd say paint is the most common mod since it's the easiest and the most practical. What else would you do to it? Leather palmrests?

You'll definitely want to take it apart for paint, though. I can't imagine a quality paint job coming out of hand painting one of these things; unless you wanted to make a pattern or something.
