A loaded 1520 will play all but the most demanding current games on high-to-near settings in moderate resolution (1280, 1440) but probably not in 1680. They will play most next gen games at mid settings with decent framerates, but don't expect loaded-desktop quality performance out of it.

The 1520 is what is considered a "performance laptop," the best bang-for-the-buck and video components without sacrificing a 3hr battery life under stress and within the $1100-1500 range. I would recommend it for you.

    Hope this post helped!

    IRO

*Edit: Just realized I didn't answer your primary question! I bet they will, but probably not for a few more months so they dont compete with their own new line (think Q1 2008ish).

Dell used to have 15" XPS models, but they were just rebranded Inspirons with better video cards. The XPS line wasn't as separate as it is today.

My guess is that no, they won't debut a 15" XPS. They'll leave it at the 13" (compact) and 17" (desktop replacement). I'd wait for a new XPS M1710 to come out soon with 8800 Go.

    i'm looking for a 15-inch model...
    :D

also, why is the apple being ranked so high?
    just curious!
    thnx

the main reason why I am considering the g1s over the 1520 is the hdmi port and of course....
    the LOOOKS
    :)

Of all 3, the apple is the fastest (and the hottest, cpu, gpu and the looks). Go check the result if u dun believe it. And if ur super unlucky to get the ddr2 8600m, the 1520 will be even slower.

The best gaming pc at 15 inch are Voodoo and Alienware the first being the better but thats just my opinion. However they will not be updated till probably after the summer.

I do know what you mean though. I ordered the m1330 because I need a new laptop now but I would love to have a nice thinish 15 inch kind of like the Makbook pros in terms of size.

unfortunately the m1330 doesn't even have a 8600gt... otherwise it would be perfect!

The 1330...I don't get how they can brand weak machines as an XPS? XPS impled elite gaming machine, but with an 8400m card, it isn't that. The XPS offerings are growing...they might make a 15 inch along with the 17 inch refresh coming up. I would expect that soon. Dell seems to be upgrading everything lately. The 8800m is likely due soon and the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processors are due out in the 3rd quarter of this year also, both just beg to be put into the XPS refresh, so I expect it quite soon.

No DX 10 gaming machine can have anything less than an 8600 in my opinion, especially if you are forward looking about it. An 8400m machine is okay for older games and maybe very basic DX10 games coming out (or low settings). Just be realistic about it when you decide.

Macbook for gaming? Apple for gaming? They're called Games for Windows for a reason.......haha. Some games don't even have Mac availability at all. If you like games but have a grudge against MS, you'll be making things difficult for yourself by going Mac.

I think by August you'll see some new offerings, including new chips and graphics cards. Widespread availability of the 8700m at the very least (as it's already coming out). Keep an eye open in the next 5 weeks before you jump on anything.

    I hope you are right....
I can weight until sept 1st-ish!
    but no later than that!
    :)

If nothing new and great is out by then in my price range, I may just go for the Asus G1s!

If anybody has any updates regarding the dell xps product line, plz post them here!!!!

    THNX!

The asus will most likely give you the best performance because of a slightly better video card, but you will save a lot of money with dell and the performance difference will really be negligible.

When I ordered my 1520 at a Dell kiosk, the rep told me the big news of the summer is going to be a 15" XPS model.

I voted for the G1S. The GPU does have DDR3 and is a bit faster than even the 512DDR2 version. I score a 3899 on 3D Mark 06 @ stock speeds with a 1280X1024 res. Also, I went to Dell's site and fully loaded a 1520 and the price was the same or greater, so Im not quite sure how you are factoring in price as bonus to getting the Dell. I would have gotten a Dell only because there is a large color selection and the White color looks pretty slick. Also, I would look at the Compal IFL90 as an alternative. You can get it well equipped at a decent price.

By fully loaded do you mean with the Blu Ray drive that the Asus G1 doesn't offer?

I agree with that idea...I think it's much closer. It is also more likely to be optimized for gaming too.
