A few times recently, I've had what seems to be problems with the backlighting in the RGB LED screen on my 1640, which I purchased back in September. The screen is usually phenomenal, but a few times it seems that one or two of the backlighting colors will shut off. This distorts the images so that they all seem to be dominated by a red, green, or blue hue (mostly green or red, I think). And then it will start changing between the R, G, or B, which looks really crazy. The only way I've been able to fix this is by restarting once or twice. I'm scared that maybe the monitor needs to be replaced. What do you guys think?

Do you mean something like this?

I am having a similar problem. For me, it happens when I plug/unplug the A/C adapter and the screen switches brightness settings. Once in a while, once a week or so, the screen would turn green. Reboot doesn't fix it, but full power down does.
Did you notice a pattern with your issue. -
i've the same problem!!!
dell replace my old screen 2 weeks ago. and now.. from 3 days.. sometimes got this bug..
note that i've 1640 with rgbled and 4670 1gb.. and updated to the latest a12 bios version..
screen flashing while windows load.. and become pink, red, or green.. and than.. screen become almost black.. i can see a little image in the dark.. but sims to be off..
how can explain that??
solve by off the xps.. plug the ac.. and then reboot..
this happened with the battery low.. on almost 14%...
thanks a lot -
Happened to me once, it went heavy green tint. Restarting or connecting the AC power did not fix it. I had to reseat the battery for it to correct itself. This has happened once in 5 months

so.. call for repair..
dell send me a tech with a new screen.. (third screen that i have.. but first that would solve this problem..)
after the exchange.. flickering problem with pink or green screen fixed..
but another problem doesn't fix.. and sims to be caused by dell raccomended energy saving profile..
when i connect or disconnect the ac adapter while windows bootup.. screen sometimes become dark.. and can't see anithing..
can solve only rebooting system.. or connect another external monitor.. and with the key to select the display, choose the external monitor.. and then reselect the internal display..
anyone try??
