Damn i still didnt get an email with info, im gonna email the tech.

Tired of getting the run around...
One minute Dell Support acknowledges the issues with the 1640 and the next they don't. One minute they state the 130 watt adapter isn't compatible, one agent decides to send me one cause it is a solution for my problem. The next agent decides to tell me that the 130 watt is causing my issues. Grrr!
So far, received the 130 watt adapter, upgraded to A12; now being sent a replacement screen for the dirt / flickering issues and a new motherboard and RAM replacement for the throttling. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
None of that will help throttling without a bios fix I was given the run around alot as well with the throttling issue and was told that 540m is more stable than a t9900 due to the smaller size 35NM vs 45NM a quick WT F popped into my head. Dell customer support is not very knowledgeable then he tried to distract me with hyperthreading and what not I told him even with all its bells and whistles clock for clock the T9900 will outperform it only comparable CPU i see for the 1647 is an i7 620m
-
LOL I just got a call from india tech support saying my replacement system request has been denied. I asked him under whose authority? and he replied "my supervisor" I ed him out and ed out his supervisor, when he found out that a Corp Manager was the one that input that into the system he apologized and expedited the build. I love these ing idiots, I need to get one of them fired so they smarten up.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
lol thats hillarious what Jark Arses
-
man, we all need to start an anti-xps group and go out to hawaii or something and relax all on Dell's coin.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
LOL Well I just received a call stating that they couldn't configure an i7620 with an RGBLED screen and that he would give me a WLED screen as a replacement. and that if I really wanted the RGBLED they would send it to me in a month or two when supplies are back to normal Tenknics you tell me since we seem to have the same config do you have an RGBLED screen with your i7 620m?

I'm currentlly waiting on a confirmation email on my build order. Hopefully they'll give me exactly what I asked for. I don't need an RGB screen but after using it for a couple of weeks and then going back to WLED it makes me feel sorta empty inside lol.
The 1647 isn't throttling at all now. GPU doesn't go above 68C on gaming and the CPU stays at a 59C max. I'm using Realtemp and GPU-Z to measure the temps while playing Starcraft 2 beta, and Just Cause 2. -
Just glad we got this in before the official fix comes in and they no longer offer replacements as an option.
-
I just got offered a replacement. Current specs are in my sig. I think I got a decent replacement. The only upgrades are cpu, video card, and wireless card: i7-620m, 4670 1gb, intel 6300 WiFi.
I had a question for you guys. In my order status, I see that I am getting the 320-8335 Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam
is that the RGBLED? I was told by the tech that it is.
I hope that the throttling will finally be solved and all this nonsense can finally be over.
Thanks. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I'm a little peeved that I had to fight and argue to get a 620M when they are just handing them out to ppl with slower processors no offense to you and congratulations
-
If it was rgbled it wouldnt say WLED -
Yes you are getting a RGBLED. Again they don't have the "term" RGBLED on build sheets mystycs..Lets not be so quick to jump to conclusions and point the finger about them lying, the tech was correct.
I will quote what I posted from the other thread, maybe you missed it
So yes vishank, 320-8335 Premium FHD WLED Display = RGB and you are getting one -
-
No worries man, I just feel a lot of the questions being asked now are ones I've already answered
Its just on build sheets, like I said, ie when you get an order number and a confirmation of your build. On the site it says "RGBLED" as an option, but again once you configure and check-out it lists it as Premium WLED on the build/order sheet only.
RGBLED is still a "WLED" class screen, it just uses Red, Green and Blue back lighting as opposed to just White, so I am sure thats why dell lists it as Prem. WLED
with all the knowledge im droppin' I'd expect more reps -
Guys,
I don't know if this is posted in here before, but the DELL 1640 community page is getting updates about the issue as well..
I would urge the NBR members who are posting their 1640 throttling woes in here, to also raise their concerns / problems at this DELL community forum too...
Maybe it can expedite the process or something.
Thanks,
C -
Thanks... I will be making my way over there as well. -
-
Glad to hear that. However, trying to get customer service to send the adapter is like pulling teeth.
Plus what happened ti the page on the Dell forums? -
Wooo! My replacement went from "IN production" to shipped today! Got a tracking # and everything! I hope I don't get a lemon like EGM92's replacement. This will be the end to many months of frustration!
-
ERS!
I just got the order number for the new replacement, you guys are going to LOVE this...
320-1208 ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB
no the board the we agreed on and
317-2824 Intel CoreTM i5 520M processor (2.4-2.9
and not the 540m.
I shot a couple of emails to my case manager. I explained to him that this is a downgrade and not what we agreed on. I called him up, let the phone ring for about 5minutes before he picked up. He said he'll configure it himself to get the proper parts and will send me an email later on with the new order number and whatnot. We'll see what happens, I had a legal dispute with HP on a very similar situation like this and won, I've contacted on of the lawyers that works with me and assisted me on that case, he's ready and willing to take action if the situation needs it. -
If it weren't for all the problems you went through, the 520m would be an upgrade from your P-whatever that you had before. But yea since you've been through hell and back I'd demand like an alienware decked out.
-
I looked into the Alienwares and they're really not for me. They're built like tanks, and not very mobile. The 16xx pushes it as a mobile computer but it's a lot easier than a M15x to carry around and whatnot. Well considering that I have a 540M NOW and they're offering a 520M as a replacement that's considered a downgrade, and the only thing that I actually requested was the new board. I didn't say I wanted a new system, I didn't ask for another exchange, I've taken everything as they've presented it to me, but not any longer. I've had enough with Dell, I went through the same BS with my M1530 and enough is enough.
-
Yea..I keep forgetting you already got the 540m on another replacement...Man I'd demand the world from Dell at this point..But yea I agree the Alienware's are built like tanks..I'd take one but I wouldn't take it over a 16..
I hope I get my laptop tomorrow instead of Monday..It is overnighted.. -
LOL Dell doesn't do Saturday shipping from my experience. Though it's processed at whatever Depot on Saturdays.
-
No wonder they did overnight on a friday, so they wouldnt actually have to overnight it...lol getting it monday probably.. -
If it's shipped out today, you'll most likely get it on Tuesday. It's the exact same situation as me.
-
My XPS has gone from bad to worse..even if i listen to songs the CPU throttles at times..i try not to use throttle stop coz if i do, the temp goes up to 90 degrees at times..
hope Dell fixes the issue soon! -
The guy called me back today and told me they are going to replace my system and it would be 8-10 days. He didn't give me any other info. Is there some way I can get more or will it just be a surprise?
-
Pretty much a surprise until you get an order number which than you can go on Dells website and check the config.
-
What have people done in an attempt to resolve the issues before receiving the new machine from Dell?
I am getting a motherboard replacement and received the 130 watt. I am wondering what's next before I get the offer. -
you require at least 3 replacements of the same part to getan exchange, I had the screen replaced twice on mine, the palmrest twice as well and got the 130w adapter. Offer came after I complained to Corp about the lack of quality in their products.
-
It is at the discretion of the rep.
I got replacement offered after only being sent a 130w adapter and only talked to my rep three times.
First: Describe problem, resolution send 130w adapter
Second: Followup on 130w adapter before i was able to test it.
Third: Tested 130w, no change in stated problem -> replacement offered. -
I still havent gotten an email and my tech isnt responding on the promised replacement or answering his calls, i see something on my dell service status online but it just says pending, and others get it immediate. This is crazy.
-
Mine took a few days until I finally got an order number from a dell rep. It just said pending for me as well on the dell service status online.
-
Mine used to say ORD and EXG now the system has been removed and it says ISS and EXG, it was updated at 1pm today and the parts that were listed there like the 9cell battery and the 1647 are no longer listed. Waiting on my case manager to call me back hopefully he follows through on his word.
While checking my current system config there's a couple of problems with it.. it says I have 2 CPU under the same service tag, 520m and 540m and basically the way it's listed shows 4 2x2gb dimms of ram. So many problems... -
-
Bill would you be able to shine some light into what Call Status: ISS means??
-
@EGM92. Thanks for posting that. I went into my account and it shows my replacement order.
A lot of odd things in here to me
If i had a higher end Core2 i wouldn't be happy, but as it is a 430 should be an upgrade.
I had a 1080p WLED screen, but this looks like they gave me an upgrade?
1 320-8332 16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p Full HD RGBLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645 $250.00?
Thought they didn't have an RGBLED item number.
Rest is equal or better than my current build, so no complaints.

Its been in production all week and just this morning it changed to shipped.
And for whoever was asking about the how the replacement situation works, I think Dell would like to try to replace things first but I didn't go through that because I refused to and I wrote that in my original email.
I wrote one email and have had 3 phone conversations last week before I got my replacement which is due to arrive next week. -
-
320-8335
320-8341
320-8332 " -
So no phone call nor any email from my case manager... The order seems to have been removed and now the call status is "ISS" whatever that means.
I bet nothing will be resolved until monday and yet I still have a semi screwed up replacement. I have to use an external mouse and a damn external keyboard if I want to be able to type properly. The damn LCD flickers when it's dimmed and idled. -
So wondering how I should proceed at this point...
Had a m1530 for 2 years. On the 4th mobo replacement they sent me a 1640 with a 3670 gpu. The laptop is amazing compared to my old m1530, and I was thoroughly impressed by it. However I realized that the 3670 was inferior, and experienced throttling shortly after putting it through it's paces.
So I chatted with tech support. It took me about an hour to explain to the guy that there was 1640 mobo with 4670, and if they were replacing my mobo due to throttling, I would like that mobo. I even had to find the part number for him. He goes to the supervisor who tells him there's no 4670 on the 1640, only on the 1645 and 1647. I then politely disagree, yadda yadda, back and forth until finally I convince him I am correct, his supervisor is wrong, and could he please do this for me.
So the tech comes out and wouldn't you know, he has the same old mobo with 3670. I let the tech replace it regardless, because I'm interested to see if it does kill the throttling.
Well, the tech replaces it and now my laptop is about 15c hotter on idle, has 3 scratches on my screen, and it still throttles.
The real question I have at this point is, do I want to get the screen replaced again, along with the mobo? For the POSSIBILITY it will fix throttling? Or do I try for a 1645 or 1647 replacement (I don't care which, just want to get out of the 1640 if this is going to be my experience)? I feel bad for even trying after coming up from a m1530. But I did buy a top of the line dell laptop with a 3 year complete care warranty, and have had 4 gpu failures on that one, and now have 2 mobo issues on this one (and the screen is scratched!).
How would you proceed?
