    Hi all,

So after 2 motherboard changes, and 1 LCD change, they finally agreed to swap out my laptop for a brand new one!

Even more, i convinced them to upgrade the video card for a better model, and also install windows 7 (i was about to buy a win7 upgrade, so this saved me few hundred$$!!)

There is an added upgrade that i did not discuss or request, what we discussed was a "no charge replacement" so they better not try and charge me!

    Here are old specs:
And here are the new specs:
    CHANGES:
VIDCARD: we discussed upgrading me to the 1GB card, so this is great! Will i notice any difference at all with this upgrade? Any increase or decrease in heat or performance?

OS: They upgraded me from Vista64 to Win7 64bit, im excited about this, i trust win7 is a much "lighter" OS and will increase the overall performance of the laptop. Yes?

LCD: Am i reading this correctly that my replacement system has the upgraded HD display? I remember having the option to pay $250 for it 8 months ago but i declined it. I see now it is added, is that right? I will let them build it and if they charge me for it i will fight like crazy saying at no time did we discuss this, im not paying for it (hopefully they let me keep it hehe)

Another question, is there any chance the body has changed at all, to alleviate some of the heat? It really can get out of control during gaming :(

    Thanks for any feedback.

There's definitely an increase performance in the vid card. And yes to your OS. Welcome to Windows 7 and I'm pretty sure you will be extremely satisfactory. For LCD, I reckon it is the same except for the fact that the newer one is leather based but even that you shouldn't have to pay extra $250. And yes and no to your last question. The vent used to be 4 slots and now increased to 5 slots. It might help alleviate some of the heat but I don't think it's significant. Undervolting and cooler would help alot.

well my original one had the leather. I remember when i ordered there was an option to upgrade to the "HD" screen for an extra $250 but i didnt do the upgrade as i never watch video on this laptop.

But now i see they added an "HD Premium" LCD and the option costs $250 ... it really appears as though they upped it to the upgrade model.

Now whether thats a typo or not, or whether ill be asked to pay for it or not, are another story.

hmmmmmmmm i guess ill know in a few weeks, its just been moved to "in production"

Was your old LCD 16" or 15.6". The new Edge to Edge HD LED Display is 15.6 whereas the RGB LED is 16". You have the former in your new configuration.

If it was 16, you can probably (given your persistance) get them to upgrade you to the RGB LED display at the proper size.

this is from original order 8 months ago:
    1 320-7328 16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 720p HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1640 $0.00
1 320-7615 Premium HD Display, Obsidian Black, Leather, 2 MP Webcam $0.00

Now this is from the NEW order (replacement):
1 320-7332 Premium HD WLED Display Obsidian Black, Leather, 2.0 MP Webcam $250.00

So the only variance is the $250 price tag, which happened to be the cost of the upgrade to the higher resolution monitor 8mo ago ... which is what led me to think they upgraded it.

My current LCD supports 1366x768, i think the upgraded one went to like 1900 or something?

yeah there are 2 upgraded options, the 1080 WLED or the 1080 RGBLED. both non RGB models are a smaller 15.6" whereas the RGB is a true 16" the 15.6 however does still fit in the same space just with a larger black frame around the display.

    Not much to quibble over.

On my replacement they didn't have an option for the bluray drive i have in my 1640. They already promised to replace the dvd drive with a bluray drive after the laptop has been shipped. (whenever that was) you can probably do something to get yourself the RGB at no cost. Ask and they will most likely give you what you want. (at least this has been my experience) Just wait until they've sent you the current laptop so they don't change any of your new upgrades while swapping the display. That way when they replace your display they do it based on the new configuration not your original one.

    Looks like a 15.6" since 1) it says WLED and 2) it's for $250 and not $300/$400.

Also just want to point out that the video card performance increase will not be because of more video memory (1 GB vs 512 MB), but because it's a faster card. The extra 0.5 GB has almost no effect for games and stuff.
