I just received a new 1640 as a replacement for a refurb 1640. The keyboard lights go off fairly quickly on the new one but will turn on when I touch a key. Is that the way the newer 1640s are being made? The lights stay lit all the time on my refurb. Does anyone else find their keyboard lights going off?

Right click on Power Options at taskbar -> Windows Mobility Center -> Keyboard brightness

The OP is talking about the timing...not brightness. The lights go off after 1 minute on my new 1647, so that is normal. However, you can adjust how long the lights stay lit by going to C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\BacklitKB.exe if you have QuickSet installed. You can set to always stay lit if you prefer.

Yes, it's timing I'm talking about. Mine go off after less than one minute. Since my refurb lights stay on, I was concerned that I had another glitch in yet another computer. Glad to know I can change that.
