    So I have a 1640 with a t9900 3.06ghz processor being replaced with a 1647 i5 540M processor. Does the t9900 outperform the i5 540M?

On notebookcheck.com the i5 540M is rated lower than the t9900.

t9900 has 6mb of cache while i5 only has 3mb.

Anyone know if the i5 is better even though the benchmark ratings say otherwise?

Thanks for the help and opinions.

Just tellem it does not match your old processors performance and you want a 1645. I had a 1640 T9600 and now look at my sig.

So are you saying the t9900 is actually better than the i5 540m? I just want to make sure before I tell dell they are sending me a lower spec'd system. Even if its slightly lower. Lower is lower

T9900 is slightly faster than 540m but slower than 620m and 720qm.
