How easy is it remove the BD-ROM in the 1645? Has anyone done it before?

Its not too hard. I replaced my optical drive with a caddy and wasn't a big hassle. Dell has a service manual that will guide you through it.

Trickiest part is removing/replacing palm rest. Just take it nice and slow

What caddy did you use? I've been wanting a second hard drive and can live with a usb optical drive the few times a year I'd use it.
