    i7-620M maybe i7-640M (dual cores, 35 W TDP).

i7-720QM, 820QM, 920XM, 740QM, 840QM, 940XM will fit but your BIOS may not support it (all quad cores, 45 W TDP with the XMs 55 W TDP).

620 and 640 are dual core, correct? So, a quad wont work?
Also, how do i know, before i buy, if my BIOS will support a quad?

We just told you.... IT WON'T. If you need some more info on which chips are alike use this: Intel Core i7 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Actually, it will support the i7-820QM just fine. The SXPS 1647 is offered for sale with that proc on Dell.com: Studio XPS 16

Wow, someone is a little weak-minded.... You were home-schooled, huh?

Thicken your skin a little bro... it has been answered before... There are threads already open on such matters.

LOOK before, thats all... and when someone like fred or I give you the answer, accept it! No need to ask in different threads and start threads that are already open. People around here know what they are talking about for the most part and are here to help, not throw up false info under their name.

But go ahead, keep wishing away friend. I will keep off YOUR post : )

That's a 1645 not 1647. The only difference is the CPU, but 2 different BIOSes which means the 1647 BIOS may not recognize the quad cores, and vice versa.

No real way to tell, ask Dell or check up on the supported processors for your BIOS.
