I have had a very bad hardware week. The hard drive on my work laptop committed suicide (I convinced my boss that I needed a 1730, and that I should be able to swap video cards with my personal 1730, so it's not all bad).

So I have been using my 1730 at work, and disabled sli for multi monitor. I ended up with a weird problem where the screen wouldn't show on boot. It would be ok until the log prompt should come up and then it would all go black. it was ok in safe mode though, so I killed the drivers and installed the 8800 ones from dell.

Now it kinda works. it boots up in what looks like 1280*1024, and then after I have logged in and it has finished loading everything resizes to 1920*1200.

Any ideas on how to make it boot in the correct res?

Which part? Replacing the work laptop is all good except for the downtime.

Starting in the wrong res keeps futzing my desktop layout. It's not a killer but it is irritating.

Try giving Dell a call, the support for NZ isn't bad, and if they can't fix it on the phone they send out an on-site technician. The XPS number is 0800 335 540.

Have you tried drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com ?

So, to confirm, the login screen is at 1280x1024?

It has fixed itself. Don't know why, or how but a few reboots later it has started opening in the correct resolution.

I was using lv2go drivers until the screen stopped showing and I changed tot he latest dell drivers.
