    1. This is about the screen quality, on the xps 15 i can choose FHD B+RGLED TL but on the xps 17 I don't see this, this means that the xps 15 has the best 1080p screen?

    2. Seems like Dell has a 20 day delay on 640 GB HDD, I don't see an option for 500 GB, I have to select the cheapest XPS and built it from there to get 500 GB who has no delay but it gets expensive from there so is there a way to get 500 GB if it's not lised, even if I ask them?

Yeah as far as the Dell lineup goes and pretty much any notebook to date, the B+RGLED 1080p on the XPS 15 is the best. The wide gamut range, superior contrast and viewing angles can't really be compared. Unfortunately the XPS 17 does not have the B+RGLED which I think was probably a bad move on Dell's part. I have actually experienced both screens in person and can tell you the difference is beyond day and night. Unfortunately, now that I am spoiled with the B+RGLED, I will never be able to use another screen unless it is as good. Here's a link to another thread which I think is similar to your dilemma.

    1. The 1080p screen on these 15's is phenomenal for a lappy.

    2. If you need to save some cash, opt for the NVIDIA GeForce GT525M 1GB graphics and 4GB RAM on the system you listed. RAM is cheap if you find you need more later and the GT540M performs just marginally better than the GT525M.

Am I missing something here? There is a whole thread I quoted earlier on the famous Dell B+RG LED = WLED

Its a marketing gimmick. Below is JUST one quote from the thread

I guess if I were in your shoes (having the XPS 17 with the inferior screen), I would too try to convince myself that the B+RGLED is just your average screen. However the 95% gamut that the XPS 15's 1080 B+RGLED possesses should not be overlooked as it is pretty much the best notebook screen you can find today with maybe the HP DreamColor being the only one that outranks it (despite a $400+ upgrade). I have seen both the XPS 15 and XPS 17 screens in person and the difference is jaw dropping. The 1080p screen on the XPS 17 is unthinkable and Dell should be completely ashamed of themselves for adulterating an otherwise fine model with such a pedestrian screen. I truly feel sorry for anyone who gets the XPS 17 but I guess I can understand why some people need that size despite the sub-par screen.

I'm curious, has any review out there analysed these screens and can actually confirm they are built different inside? There are two completely different takes on these B+RG screens in these forums, both can't be right.

I can just as easily say....... Is it all hype driven from people who own these screens (and want other people to think they have inferior screens) and want people to think they are missing out on something. But I'm not that rude. :nah:

I agree that in most cases, people will sabotage another product that is within competitive range in order to feel better about one's own decision on purchasing said product. However I have had the opportunity to experience both and in fact I initially purchased the XPS 17 and decided to exchange it for the XPS 15 solely because of the extremely disappointing screen of the XPS 17. Upon receiving my XPS 15, my initial observation was that the quality of the B+RGLED was centuries ahead and kept wondering to myself why would Dell exclude the XPS 17 from such a gift to the world. But anyway to answer your question, there have been many tests/analysises conducted on the specifications that were detected and the B+RGLED was superior in all aspects. Do a search and you can confirm yourself if you really need numbers to convince yourself.

I don't see how he/she is Sabotaging anything when they don't own either screen yet and is only going on opinion on this board. Plus commentslike centuries ahead and gift to the world is a little harsh don't u think? Centuries ahead and we will all be in those rooms on star trek the next generation for entertainmen called halow decks I think. We wont be looking at 15 inch brg screens. Ha

Clearly your ability to understand rhetoric is limited. Instead of the word "harsh," you may want to consider the word "hyperbole" instead. Look it up if you don't know what it means. Also perhaps you may have misread what I wrote; I did own both screens at one point. I returned the XPS 17 for the XPS 15 because of how terrible the screen on the XPS 17 was. You provide me with much needed comic relief in my workday, thanks!=)

I read that thread awhile back and I'm still not interested in people arguing over what an LED is. :) ...or new claims that the SXPS16 1080p RGBLED screen was brighter and whiter than the XPS 15 1080p (end of the linked thread). I nearly shot Cherry Coke out my nose when I read that piece of absurdity. :D

Regardless, I can only comment on how nice the 15" screen is and yes, it lives up to the "hype". Our XPS 17 is used as more of a workhorse instead of for any entertainment so we only opted for the 900p screen. No need to comment on the quality difference there... lol.

Its only marginally better. The way I understand it is that the 540 can NEVER utilize 2GB of vram due to it's processing limitations and is a true "marketing gimmick". Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I think I'm going with the 525m to save some money, $100 doesn't seem worth it for the upgrade and I won't need 2GB, thanks!
