it will work in my XPS 1730 or not? I am unhappy with the my 2 8700m... and i am willing to change for 1 280m but i dont know if it is going to work. And if it does, i dont know if 1 would be better than my 2 8700M
    Thx :D

A single gtx 280m will be better than 2 8700m running in SLI. But i'm not sure if you can upgrade ur gpu tho... its quite possible that you can't

It's not going to fit, because the m1730 doesn't use MXM. It has a special Dell connector. So, you have to wait for Dell to make a special version of the 280M for the m1730 (if they'll do it, which I doubt).

    ^^ like said.

the M1730 is not using a standard MXM module design, they chose to use proprietary modules and connectors.

the M1730 is old techonology (previous Santa Rosa platform) and will be phased out soon if Dell wants to seriously contend in the high-end gaming market.

And I agree with MAG, highly doubtful that they will have anymore upgrades for an aging system.

There is no option for the GTX 280M in the M1730. The highest graphics option you currently have is the dual 9800M GTX SLI.

And you are absolutely right – Dell is not going to made a new model of gaming laptop . Alienware is the one who will . And I’m sad because it is not available in my country .

I think Dell has currently removed that option from the m1730. So any new purchases will only have, at best, a 9800m gt SLI.

Ive heard that Dell is going to market Alienware internationally tho.

The M1730 is a great machine but it is a bit outdated now. I wish more the Montevina than the 280Ms as long as 9800M GTXes will still be available.

One biggest reason I won't buy A.W. is that it's warranty is not transferable.

    Biggest B.S. ever.

    Hi guys,

I'm looking at purchasing an XPS 1730. Do you think it is a waste of money to buy one now? Should I wait for a re-fresh and does anyone guess on when that might be?

    Thanks,

I doubt there would be a refresh, not until the end of the year...

If you're going to buy it, buy it. If you wait for the next best thing to be released later on, then you'll be waiting forever. The M1730 is a good machine.

they just added the 9800s, so it might be awhile before they change anything.

Ok, been reading some forums here, and some say don't order the physX card, because it is a waste. The GPUs can handle it.
But having the GPUs handle it, does it take power away from the graphics?

So should I save the $75?
