Is it normal for xps 1645 PCs with ATI 5730 graphics to have 3dmark06 scores vary from 7271 to 8265?

All 3 PCs with essentially same configurations, software and A11 BIOS. All had TS enabled during testing. Do not believe any throttled.

When you say essentially the same configurations, do you include screen resolution?

If they have different resolutions, the scores will be different because 3dmark06 changes the default test resolution based on your native resolution. And the number of marks is heavily influenced by the test resolution.

Also, TS is a great tool, but if your laptop isn't throttling (5730 shouldn't have issues) you probably shouldn't enable TS.

Isn't the 3dmark06 default test resolution the same... regardless of native screen resolution?

It is true the xps1645 that scored 8265 was the only 1645 with the 900p screen. The other 1645s (with low 7000 scores) had 1080p screens.

I left TS enabled during testing for throttling. One of the tests was 3dmark06 v1.2.0

Check it out, it tells what resolution it is testing at ;)

Yes, that's exactly what the issue is. With the 1080p, the res defaults to 1280x1024. With the 900p it defaults to 1024x768. I've had the same issue with my 900p, I had to hook it up to an external monitor to get run at the default res for the sake of comparison. A 1000 point increase sounds about right for the res difference.

theres the difference right there. as the guy above me stated, the 1080p screens will do 1280x1024 and i believe a 900p screen would do 1280x720? but maybe he is right in that it is 1024x768. Either way that will make up the difference.

    Thx for clearing up confusion.

BTW- my 900p screen defaults to 1024x720, not 1024x768.

My bad, I double checked and mine defaults to 1280x768. Still, the point is still valid, it's the resolution.
