I've never really used 3DMark, but I wanted to stress for temperature reasons and decided to see what I could get in 3DMark06. I got 14197, and I'm wondering for my setup is that good, bad or average?

I've never really relied much on 3DMark scores, it's nothing but a number to me - as long as a game even LOOKS like it's running smooth I'm happy =-P Just wondering what I should have expected outta 3DMark06 =-)

I'd say you're looking pretty good, my score for comparison:

So the .2GHz overclocking in mine is worth 5 more points? That seems a bit low to me, but I don't know much about 3DMark :p

(Out of interest, why does yours show 3072MB of RAM, but 2x2GB sticks?)

Your OC'd extreme proc should be getting you over 14K. Looks right to me for a first run.

    Coolio =-) Thanks.

Hopefully someone will drop by with the same system as me except not overclocked so I can get an idea of how much improvement it really gives. I know I could downclock it and try it again...but I'm much too lazy for that =-P

32-bit OS will only be able to see a maximum of ~3GB of RAM.

    The 32-bit limitation is 4GB.

I used to have a similar system and without OC'ing it should be in the 13.5K range.

    32 bit = 2^32 addresses, which is exactly 4GB.
Addresses go to other things, so you can never actually use 4GB of RAM. Some systems will show 3.5, some 3.2. Most new systems end up with 3GB because address space needs to go to so many other things. I should have been more clear.

Look at your score in more detail to see how they stack up:
    Main test results
    3DMark Score 14192 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score 6398
    SM 3.0 Score 7444
    CPU Score 2812

That's why I put the comparison link, don't just look at the big number. My 8800Ms are OClk'd too.
At 3.4 I do not get consistent scores so I don't relay on it but at 3.0 and 3.2 I do get consistent scores and found the the bump from 3.0 to 3.2 is worth about 450-500 points overall for me.

Ah I see. My scores were:

    SM 2.0 Score: 6523
    SM 3.0 Score: 6954
    CPU Score: 3003

Your SM 3.0 blew me away, whatever that is :p Is that due to your 8800Ms being OC'ed? I haven't touched my 8800s...

Remember, driver version can also play a factor (sometimes a BIG factor) in 3DMark06 scores. ;)

Your about right Eambo. Im using the same spec system as you and here is mine with a CPU O/C to 3.4GHZ

The score with my CPU at 2.8GHZ is 13256 - Huge difference.

Thanks Mick. Yeah I just tested mine on 2.8GHz - it was in the 12000s o_O

Would overclocking my GPUs do much as far as gaming is concerned, or is that more of a 3DMark thing? I wouldn't want to OC and risk frying my cards if it wouldn't help with gaming hehe

At low resolutions it would not make much difference because you would mainly be CPU bottlenecked even at 3.4GHZ CPU!
But at 1920x1200 then yes it can be beneficial in certain games that really stress the cards (Crysis etc)
I would just leave them at stock clocks until your games are struggling in performance.

I just tested my 3dmark06 score with the GPUs at stock and CPU at 3.4GHZ and I got 14332, So the difference is not much at all.

Hi guys I overclocked my 2.4 p8600 intel core 2 duo and my Geforce 9400mg card and heres how my results increased in 3dmark05
before i had gamings score of 3959 and processor score of 12**(dont remember exactly) Now I overclocked my processor to 2.7 and overclocked the 9400mg shaders by 40mhz and heres the final results: gaming score 4265, processor: 14437... and thats with 9400mg not 9500 card.... overclocking with 9500 should be crazy improvement...
