Hi guys, reading a lot of gumpf around the place regarding the 555m being too slow to do 3d ANYTHING game related. mostly by people who dont even own one.

so im asking anyone with the 3d equipped xps 17 who have actually used it for gaming to give me an idea of what i could expect?
    thanks all

    hi James

I've got the 3D L702x and I've found that playing a game in 3D with the same settings as non 3D approximately halves the FPS.

In 3D mode, the GPU is basically doing twice the work, so halved FPS seems pretty normal. However you can combat this by dropping your screen resolution and/or graphical settings ingame. So a sacrifice in a bit of quality will give you a playable 3D game with a few more FPS.

If you've already got a game to play at 50-60 FPS in non 3D, then playing the game in 3D is going to be quite playable without touching the settings I reckon. I've managed this in Oblivion with quite high settings. I had to drop my screen res in the likes of GTA 4 to get in playable in 3D. GTA 4 is great in 3D by the way :D

hope that answers some of your question

sure have. but i wasnt sure about the performance.

so many people say its not even worth trying to play a game with it..

mostly its people on the nvidia forums with sli setups who seem to think all the 555m is good for is playing 3d blu rays :S

Is the 3d screen a true 120Hz monitor or is it just a gimick like some "120Hz" stuff?
