I purchased an XPS M1530 from DELL OUTLET the other week for £533. After realising that a years warranty wouldn't be enough I called up DELL and haggled down the price of '4 years Next Business Day' warranty to £122.

I just wanted to know your take on it, as I only have 7 days to change my mind.

Is this a good price for that length of warranty?

Do you think that 4 years is necessary?

    Thanks in advance

You can always purchase another year towards the end of whatever you do purchase.

Well if you're going to do any overclocking that'll void your warranty. If you think you'll keep the laptop for 4 years I'd say it's worth it in case something does come up.

Though, now that you have the warranty, nothing will happen. As soon as you cancel it something will go wrong, I called it. :)

Most of the time noone checks for an overclock if you get at-home service. Also if you do have to send it in for a depot service then just reformat.

That's the reason I wanted 4 years warranty. Is there a way of stopping them being able to tell I've overclocked it (apart from going to the extreme and formating the drive)?

I paid £90 to extend my warranty by 3 years giving me 4 years total next day at home service.

    They won't check for overclocking.

If I want to add an extra 3 years to mine to make it a total 4 years, should I do it now or wait until the end of my first year? I just received the laptop for about a week.

warranty cost should not exceed 30% of a laptop's value for it to be worth it..

usually, to buy an extended warranty, you have 14 -30 days after purchase.

Four years makes sense if you intend to keep the laptop for four years. Only you know how long you usually keep them. I replace a computer after no more than 3 years since the technology changes so much in that time. So I opted for a 3 year warranty. For me, I found it important to get coverage for accidents since laptops are more prone to that.

    Hi!Hi!

I have the 3 year on mine...and if I knew I may keep the 1530 for 4years, I may have *gave in * to the 4 year! ;) :) I also have AtHome Service. ;)

I believe you have to look at how long you are going to keep the notebook, and what you are going to use it for! Things like that ;) :)

    Cin' ;) :)

I was told by a Dell representative that if you take the basic warranty (1 year premium only), you won't be able to extend the warranty at the end of the year. Is this true?

I think 3 years max concurring with previous poster's reasoning.
