i think its a smart move, the people that dont want the leather get what they want and dell saves some money
-
I think a better option would be just to have a free option of no leather instead of raising the price to add something the laptop already has. Then again if the leathers that big of a deal you could just get a different laptop.
-
What are they putting in place of the leather? I like the leather but I probably wouldn't have paid $40 for it.
-
What?? When did this start???
Why charge a premium price for something that was part of the SPXS design to being with??

I just priced out the laptop WITH the leather trim, and it is exactly the same price I paid 10 days ago. So they have boosted the trim price, but lowered something else using the exact same specs. They manipulate the pricing on different options but you still end up in the same spot. At least now you have the option of no leather and the lesser screen if you want to save a few bucks.
-
Well the base price of 999.99 has not changed but now you don't get leather. If you don't want it thats fine but if you do now your paying 40.00 for it. If they dropped the price 40.00 then it would be a non issue but the way it is they technicaly raised the price, most people will just never know.
-
Still, for me the Leather Trim was part of the *Original Design*, and either way..there should not be a premium charge for it. It should be at a $0 cost always.
When they came out with the Red Design...I can't remember if they were charging and additional cost for that...Does anyone remember? I didn't see it on the EPP site at that time.

Obsidian Black w/ leather and Merlot Red w/leather were always the same price.

I am just happy there is an option for no leather. My sister refused to buy the SXPS and instead went with a Sony mostly because of the leather that she did not want.
-
The problem is, they didn't actually make it cheaper by removing the leather. Dell subtly raised the price of the SXPS 16 by making the leather a $40 upgrade.
-
Unless they were to add any more colors, or some *exuberant* design change...they should leave it a the $0 cost.

Does anyone know what the model without leather actually looks like? Is the black leather just replaced with black gloss, or is it all aluminum, or what? I worry about not having any place to pick up the laptop without finger prints...
-
I believe one of the forum members just ordered and is waiting on delivery..and was going to post pics once he received!
It appears its just an all Black Gloss!

i think i'll receive mine today or tomorrow, i'll try to post some photos when i'll have it, but not sure i'll post them here, i think rather to "post your pics" or to the official 1640+4670 topic

the leather is everything for the love of God
without the leather it isnt any Studio XPS !

I added a complete leather skin to my M1330 for about $30 Canadian including shipping
40$ to get the leather accent on the SXPS 16+13
