I have quite a few 5.1 (DTS/Dobly Digital) 1080p video files that I want to put up on my big screen and surround sound system. The way I have it currently setup is I run the video and audio through the HDMI to the TV and then from the TV I route the audio to my Pre Amp where it goes from stereo to ProLogic. I want to output the audio from the S/pdif port to my pre amp so I can listen to my suround system but I am completely confused  on what cables to get. Can anyone help shed some light on this for me?

The correct way to do it would to run the HDMI to a HDMI capable preamp/receiver. Then run another HDMI from the preamp/receiver to the TV. If that is not an option, you could always look for a mini-TOSLINLK to TOSLINK adapter, and then just use a normal optical cable.

    Try one of these links:
Toslink Female to Toslink Mini Male Adapter
    TOSLINK mini to TOSLINK Cable

The Preamp was bought before HDMI came out. I would buy a new one with HDMI but this guy is worth some serious dough, and it still works and sounds awesome. Don't run video through it anymore, I only run audio directly, without processing from the source through the Preamp to my system. Works great that way.

Thanks for the links, really helpful!
